  • Another major winter storm brings heavy mountain snow to California this weekend; low elevations snows for western Oregon.
  • Snowstorm moves into Michigan, New York and New England; ice storm for far-west Maryland.
  • Strong winds today from the Great Lakes to the Gulf Coast and Southeast.

Pacific:

— Northwest WA Olympic Peninsula: Winter Storm Watch this afternoon through Saturday afternoon. 1-2 feet of snow possible. US-101 impacted.

WA Cascades: Winter Storm Warnings and Advisories continue through this morning above 1000 feet. An additional 3-5 inches snow possible. I-90 impacted.

OR Coastal Range: Winter Storm Watch above 1000 feet this afternoon through Saturday afternoon. 2-6 inches of snow, increasing to 7-14 inches above 2000 feet. Gusts to 35 mph. US-101 impacted.

South-central and southwest OR; much of the higher terrain of northern CA above 1200 feet: Winter Storm Warnings and Advisories early Saturday through Sunday afternoon. 2-6 inches snow and wind gusts to 35 mph. 6-12 inches or more snow in the Passes and higher elevations. Snow levels between 500 and 1500 feet. I-5 (especially the Passes), US-101, US-199, US-395 impacted.

CA Northern and Central Sierra Nevada Mountains above 1000 feet: Winter Storm Warnings Saturday morning through Monday morning. Snow accumulations 4-18 inches above 2000 feet and 1-5 feet above 30000 feet. Wind gusts to 55 mph. Heaviest snow Saturday afternoon and Sunday. I-80, US-50 impacted.

Northwest, west-central and central NV: Wind Advisories Saturday and Saturday evening. Gusts to 55 mph. I-80, US-50, US-95 impacted.

Mountain:

Portions of northwest and west-central MT; much of northern ID: Winter Weather Advisories through this evening. 1-4 inches snow, except 5-9 inches in the passes and higher terrain. I-90, US-12 impacted.

— Eastern ID; WY Teton and Gros Ventre Mountains: Winter Weather Advisories through this evening. 2-6 inches snow except higher amounts over the passes. Wind gusts 25-35 mph. US-26 impacted.

— South-central WY: Periodic Winter Weather Advisories for the Sierre Madre and Snowy Mountain Ranges through Sunday evening. 4-8 inches snow today and an additional 5-10 inches snow this weekend. Wind gusts to 60 mph. This area is just south of I-80.

— West-central SD Southern Black Hills: Winter Weather Advisory today and tonight. 2-5 inches snow.

Central:

** If you are traveling anywhere today or this evening within a region bounded on the west from eastern TX to Illinois, on the east from western PA to SC, and from the Gulf Coast to the Great Lakes, you will have wind gusts 45-60 mph. Many areas will have very heavy rains and flash floods. The center of this region also has a threat for significant severe weather, including a few tornadoes **

— East-central and northeast IL: Winter Storm Warnings and Advisories this afternoon and early tonight. Up to 4-8 inches of snow and wind gusts to 60 mph. I-55, I-57, I-72, I-74, I-80, I-90, I-94 impacted.

— Northeast and eastern TX; most of AR; LA; southeast MO; southern and central IL; western KY; central and southern MS; AL; FL Panhandle: Wind Advisories through this evening. Wind gusts generally 40-50 mph.

— TN; northern, northwest and west-central MS; northern AL: High Wind Warnings through this evening. Gusts to 60 mph.

— Southeast OK; central and northern AR; southern MO; southern IL; western KY and TN; northern MS and AL: FLASH FLOOD WARNINGS, Flood Advisories and Watches through this afternoon. Flooding and Flash Flooding occurring now in many regions of OK, AR, MS, TN, KY, IL, especially along I-40 in AR and I-55 from Memphis to southern IL. Do not drive through or across flooded roads. Be ready to rapidly seek higher ground if you are camping by a stream, creek, pond or small river.

— Western KY; western TN; north-central and northeast MS; northwest and north-central AL: TORNADO WATCH through early this afternoon. Wind gusts to 80 mph and a couple of strong tornadoes possible. I-24, I-40, I-65 potentially impacted.

Eastern:

— Southern, central and northeast IN; southeast; central and western OH; northern KY: Flood Advisories (KY) and Watches through late tonight. 1-3 inches of rain likely. I-64, I-65, I-69, I-70, I-71, I-74, I-75, I-77, I-80, OH Turnpike potentially impacted.

— Central and southern IN; central and southern OH; southwest PA; far-west MD; most of WV; west-central and southwest VA; central and eastern KY; eastern TN; western, southwest and south-central NC; GA; most of inland SC; northern FL including the Panhandle: High Wind Warnings (KY, TN, along the Appalachians from NC north to PA) and Advisories today and tonight. Wind gusts 40-50 mph in the Advisory areas and gusts to 60 mph in the High Wind Warnings.

— Northwest VA; eastern WV; far-west MD; south-central PA: ICE STORM WARNINGS (I-68 corridor in MD) and Winter Weather Advisories through this evening. Snow, sleet and freezing rain. Up to an inch of snow. Far-west MD may see 2-4 tenths of an inch of ice. Wind gusts 40-50 mph. I-64, I-68, I-70, I-76, I-99, PA Turnpike impacted.

— Central, north-central and northeast PA; most of western NY, NY Southern Tier: Winter Weather Advisories this afternoon through Saturday morning. Up to 3 inches of snow and sleet, mixed with freezing rain. I-80, I-81, I-84, I-86, I-88, I-90, I-99, NY Thruway impacted.

— NY Mid-Hudson Valley; southern and eastern MA; northern CT and RI: Winter Weather Advisories this evening through Saturday. 1-6 inches of snow. Wind gusts to 45 mph. I-84, I-87, I-90, I-91, I-95, Mass Pike, NY Thruway impacted.

— Much of northern NY; northern MA; VT; NH; southern ME: Winter Storm Warnings and Watches (ME) this evening through Saturday evening. Snow accumulations 7-14 inches and wind gusts to 45 mph. I-81, I-87, I-88, I-89, I-90, I-91, I-93, I-95, Mass Pike, NY Thruway impacted.

— Coastal MA: Wind Advisory late tonight through Saturday afternoon. Gusts to 55 mph. US-6 impacted.

— If you are camping near the northern portions of the Chesapeake Bay, the Delaware Bay, NJ, Long Island or CT coasts, expect coastal flooding this afternoon and tonight.
