  • Today is the first day of the 2023 Atlantic Hurricane Season and on cue, Tropical Depression 02 has formed in the Northeast Gulf of Mexico. Minimal threat to the U.S. coastline.
  • High pressure still anchored firmly over the Central U.S. Only slow changes in the day-to-day weather.
  • Chances for organized severe thunderstorms are low throughout this period.

  • “What you have is what you got.” Big, blocking high pressure over the center of the country will slow down the weather patterns this period.
  • Low pressure system likely to develop over Florida this weekend, the move off the Southeast Coast. There is a slight (10%) chance this system could develop tropical characteristics.
  • Daily showers and thunderstorms for the Rockies and western High Plains, Great Basin and California Sierra Nevada mountains.

  • Back to the future? By the end of the week, the atmosphere could revert to the pattern we just had this past week: extensive showers, thunderstorms and some severe weather in the Rockies and High Plains, a coastal low over the Southeast, and dry conditions for the Midwest and Northeast.
  • Increased chance of severe thunderstorm potential the latter half of this week over the southern High Plains, central and southern Texas.

  • Slow-moving coastal storm brings rain and wind to the Southeast, Mid-Atlantic and Southern New England coasts Thursday through Sunday.
  • For Memorial Day weekend, expect pm showers and thunderstorms daily over northeast California, the interior Northwest and Inter-Mountain West, Northern Nevada, the Rockies, and the Plains.
  • Daily chances of severe thunderstorms. Most will be east of the southern Rockies or over the Central and Southern High Plains. Greatest risk for severe weather will be on Saturday.

  • Minimal severe weather this weekend. Some severe weather potential returns to the High Plains early next week.
  • Much above normal temperatures for the Pacific Northwest and portions of California, the Great Basin and Inter-Mountain West. This warmth expands to the Northern Rockies and Northern Plains by early next week.

  • Minimal severe weather risk after Friday; most severe weather suppressed to Gulf Coast States, southern Texas and Florida.
