** Heads Up ** Unusually cold, wet, and powerful storm will impact central and southern California and Nevada today and Saturday. Expect snow levels much lower than usual in the coastal ranges. Blizzard conditions expected in the Los Angeles and Ventura County mountains, including the Grapevine (I-5 north of Los Angeles). Potential for significant flash flooding at low elevations.

        Pacific:

        — OR Southern Cascades: Winter Weather Advisories continue this morning. An additional inch or so of snow. US-97 impacted.

        Much of northern CA including the Sacramento and northern San Joaquin Valley foothills; coastal CA north of San Francisco above 1000 feet: Winter Storm Warnings this afternoon through midday today. 1-6 inches snow and wind gusts to 50 mph. I-5, US-101, CA-1 impacted.

        CA northern and central Sierra Nevada: Winter Storm Warnings continue through late tonight. Additional accumulations of 3-6 inches in the foothills, 8-12 inches around 3000 feet and 1-3 feet above 3000 feet. Wind gusts 50-75 mph. I-80, US-50 impacted.

        Northern and central CA Sacramento and San Joaquin Valleys; central CA coast: Wind Advisories today. Gusts 40-50 mph. I-5, I-80, US-101, CA-1, CA-99 impacted.

        Northeast CA; ;much of western, central and southern NV north of I-15: Winter Storm Warnings and Advisories continue through Saturday. Snow accumulations will range from 1-3 inches in the northwest to 1-2 feet in the southern mountains. Wind gusts 45-50 mph. I-80, US-6, US-50, US-93, US-95, US-395 impacted.

        South-central NV: BLIZZARD Warning today and tonight. 4-10 inches snow in the valleys and 1-3 feet snow in the mountains. Wind gusts to 60 mph. US-6 impacted.

        Central CA coastal mountains: Winter Storm Warnings and Advisories through midday today. Snow levels rising to 2000-2500 feet. Up to 3-7 inches snow above 2500 feet. Strong and gusty winds. CA-1 impacted.

        CA southern Sierra Nevada: BLIZZARD Warnings (above 8000 feet) and Winter Storm Warnings through Saturday afternoon. 3-6 feet of additional snow and wind gusts to 60 mph. US-395 impacted.

        Southern CA south and southeast San Joaquin Valley, including Bakersfield: Flood Watch late this morning through Saturday morning due to excessive rainfall. I-5, CA-58 potentially impacted.

        Southern CA Mountains from Santa Barbara to San Diego Counties: BLIZZARD Warnings (Ventura and Los Angeles County Mountains) and Winter Storm Warnings through Saturday. Snow accumulations 6-12 inches below 4000 feet and 2-5 feet above 4000 feet. Wind gusts to 80 mph and near zero visibility. I-5 (including the Grapevine), I-8, I-15 highly impacted. Expect these major highways to be closed or impassable.

        Much of the western half of southern CA: Flood Watches this afternoon through Saturday. Rainfall rate could reach 1 inch / hour. I-5, I-8, I-10, I-15, US-101, CA-1 potentially impacted.

        Southern CA Antelope, Apple and Lucerne Valleys: High Wind Warnings today and tonight. Gusts to 65 mph. I-15, US-395 impacted.

        Coastal southern CA: Wind Advisories through tonight. Gusts to 50 mph. I-5, I-8, I-10, I-15, US-101, CA-1 impacted.

        Mountain:

        — Northwest MT along the Rocky Mountain Front: Blizzard and Winter Storm Warnings this morning through Saturday afternoon. Ground blizzard conditions with wind gusts to 70 mph and wind chill values as low as -50 deg F.

        Central MT: Winter Weather Advisory this evening through Saturday afternoon. Blowing snow with wind gusts to 50 mph. I-15, I-90 impacted.

        Central WY: Winter Weather Advisory late this morning through Saturday afternoon. Blowing snow with wind gusts to 55 mph. I-25, US-20, US-287 impacted.

        Southeast WY: High Wind Warnings and Watches tonight through Saturday night. Wind gusts 60-65 mph. I-25, I-80 impacted.

        Western NM; portions of AZ including the I-10 and I-40 corridors: Strong winds Saturday afternoon and evening. Gusts 30-40 mph. I-10, I-17, I-19, I-40 impacted.

        Parts of west-central and southwest CO: Winter Storm Warnings (southwest CO) and Advisories today. Additional snow accumulations up to 6-12 inches. Wind gusts 50-60 mph. I-70 impacted.

        South-central and southeast CO; most of eastern and southern NM; far-west TX: High Wind Watches Sunday and Sunday night. Gusts 65-75 mph. I-10, I-25, I-40 impacted.

        Central:

        Western TX: High Wind Watches Sunday and Sunday night. Gusts 65-75 mph. I-10, I-27, I-40 impacted.

        Central and northern TX; most of OK; southern and central KS: Expected isolated to scattered severe thunderstorms Sunday afternoon and evening. Large hail and damaging winds are the main threats. I-20, I-35, I-40, I-44, I-70 potentially impacted.

        North-central OK; southeast KS; west-central and northeast MO; central IL: Some light freezing rain or freezing drizzle this evening and early tonight will cause slick road conditions on untreated surfaces. I-29, I-35, I-44, I-55, I-57, I-70, I-72, I-74 potentially impacted.

        Central AR: FLASH FLOOD WARNING through mid-morning. 2-3 inches of rain from thunderstorms has fallen and an additional 1-2 inches are possible. Area includes Little Rock and to the southwest. I-30 potentially impacted.

        — Coastal LA, MS, AL; FL Panhandle: Dense Fog Advisories through mid-morning. I-10, I-12, I-55, I-59, I-65 impacted.

        Eastern:

        — Northern and central MI; western NY: Light snow tonight and Saturday morning. 1-2 inches expected. I-69, I-75, I-81, I-86, I-90 / NY Thruway, I-96 impacted.

        — Central and eastern PA; central and eastern NY: Strong winds this morning. Gusts to 35 mph. I-76, I-78, I-80, I-81, I-83, I-84, I-86, I-87, I-88, I-90, I-99, NY Thruway, PA Turnpike impacted.

        — Central and western MA; northern CT; RI: Wind Advisories through this evening. Gusts to 45 mph. I-84, I-90 / Mass Pike, I-91, I-95 impacted.

        — Down East ME: Winter Storm Warnings and Advisories continue through this morning. Additional snow accumulations of 1-3 inches.
