** Heads Up ** Regional severe weather outbreak this afternoon and tonight. Greatest threat over northeast Texas, Arkansas, northern Louisiana, and much of central and northern Mississippi. Extensive high winds Friday across the Ohio Valley, Mid-South, and Southeast.


  • In addition to the severe weather outbreak, significant flash flood potential today and Friday from eastern Oklahoma through the Tennessee and Ohio Valleys.
  • Snowstorm today for the Southwest; heavy snow moves into Michigan, northern New York and New England on Friday.
  • Strong winds Friday across much of the Mississippi Valley and eastward into the Appalachians and Southeast.
  • Another major winter storm brings heavy mountain snow to California this weekend.

Pacific:

WA Cascades; northern OR Cascades: Winter Storm Warnings and Advisories through early Friday morning above 1000 feet. Total snowfall accumulation 6-14 inches. Wind gusts to 40 mph. I-90 impacted.

— Northeast WA; northern ID: Winter Weather Advisory through midday today. 1-3 inches snow. I-90 impacted.

Northeast OR and adjacent southeast WA: Winter Weather Advisory above 4000 feet through Friday morning. 6-12 inches snow. Gusts to 40 mph. I-84 impacted.

— Northwest OR coastal ranges: Winter Weather Advisory above 1500 feet continues through this morning. l2-5 inches snow likely. Wind gusts to 35 mph.

Southwest OR; much of the higher terrain of northern CA above 1200 feet: Winter Storm Watches Friday night through Sunday morning. 6-12 inches snow at lower elevations and 1-2 feet in higher terrain. Wind gusts 35-45 mph. I-5 (especially the Passes), US-101, US-199, US-395 impacted.

CA Northern and Central Sierra Nevada Mountains above 1000 feet: Winter Storm Watches Saturday morning through Monday morning. Snow accumulations 2-14 inches above 1000 feet and 1-5 feet above 2500 feet. Wind gusts to 60 mph. Heaviest snow Saturday afternoon and Sunday. I-80, US-50 impacted.

Mountain:

Much of northern and north-central ID; adjacent northwest MT: Winter Weather Advisories through Friday. 2-5 inches snow in the valleys and 7-14 inches in the mountains. Wind gusts to 50 mph. I-90 impacted.

Northwest MT along and east of the Rocky Mountain Front: High Wind Warning today. Gusts 75-85 mph. I-15 impacted.

South-central MT Livingston Area and Beartooth Foothills: Wind Advisory late this afternoon and tonight. Wind gusts 50-60 mph. I-90 impacted.

Southeast WY Snowy Range Mountains: High Wind Warning late this morning through Friday morning. Gusts to 65 mph. I-80 impacted.

Southeast WY South Laramie Range: High Wind Watch tonight. Gusts to 60 mph. I-25, I-80 impacted.

Much of central and eastern AZ; western, central and northern NM; south-central and southwest CO and adjacent UT: Winter Storm Warnings and Advisories today. Accumulations generally 2-6 inches at and above 4000 feet. Wind gusts to 45 mph. I-10, I-17, I-25, I-40 impacted.

Central and much of southern NM; far-west TX: High Wind Warnings and Advisories through tonight. Wind gusts 45-55 mph except over southeast NM and far-west TX including the I-10/I-20 split where winds will gust to 80 mph. I-10, I-20, I-25, I-40 impacted.

Central:

Central, south and southwest TX: High Wind Warnings (southwest) and Advisories through tonight. Wind gusts 45-80 mph with the highest winds over the I-10/I-20 split. I-10, I-20, I-27, I-35 impacted.

Northeast and east-central IL: Winter Storm Watch Friday. Rain changing to wet snow. 5-8 inches accumulation possible. Wind gusts to 45 mph. I-55, I-57, I-80, I-88, I-90 potentially impacted.

Eastern OK; central and northern AR; southern and southeast MO; southern IL; western KY and TN; northern MS and northern AL: FLOOD WARNINGS (northern AL), Advisories and Watches through Friday. Flooding already occurring over parts of TN and AL. 3 inches or more rain possible. I-22, I-24, I-30, I-40, I-44, I-55, I-57, I-64, I-65 potentially impacted.

— Eastern TX; LA; most of AR; western KY; western and central TN; MS; LA; FL Panhandle: Wind Advisories tonight and Friday. Gusts generally 45-50 mph. I-10, I-12, I-20, I-22, I-24, I-30, I-40, I-44, I-55, I-57, I-59, I-64, I-65, I-72, I-85 impacted.

Much of central and eastern TX; southeast OK; much of AR; western TN; MS north and west of I-59; LA north of I-10: A significant regional severe weather outbreak likely this afternoon and tonight. Widespread damaging winds, large to very large hail and several (strong) tornadoes expected. Greatest risk over northeast TX, southeast OK, southwest AR and northwest LA. I-10, I-20, I-22, I-30, I-35, I-40, I-35, I-40, I-49, I-55, I-59, I-65, I-85 potentially impacted.

— Central TN ; northern and central AL: Severe thunderstorms capable of damaging winds and a few tornadoes are possible Friday. I-20, I-22, I-24, I-40, I-59, I-65, I-85 potentially impacted.

Eastern:

Northwest and northern IN; central and southern MI and adjacent northwest OH: Winter Storm Watches Friday afternoon and Friday night. Snow accumulations 6 or more inches. Wind gusts to 40 mph. I-65, I-69, I-80, I-90, I-94, I-96, OH Turnpike, IN Toll Road potentially impacted.

Much of IN; western and central OH; north-central KY: Flood Watches through late Friday night. 2-3 inches of rainfall expected. I-64, I-65, I-69, I-70, I-71, I-74, I-75 impacted.

Central and eastern KY; southeast and east-central WV; west-central and southwest VA; most of GA except southeast portion of state; central and eastern FL Panhandle: Wind Advisories Friday and Friday night. Gusts 45-55 mph. I-10, I-16, I-20, I-64, I-75, I-79, I-81, I-85 impacted.

Eastern KY and eastern TN; far southwest VA: High Wind Watches Friday and Friday night. Gusts 55-70 mph. I-26, I-40, I-75, I-81 impacted.

Northern NY and much of VT: Winter Storm Watches Friday evening through Saturday evening. 6-12 inches snow possible. I-81, I-87, I-89, I-91, I-93 potentially impacted.

— Much of ME; parts of NH, VT and MA: Winter Weather Advisories this morning. Snow and sleet but little additional accumulation.

— Southeast and east-central PA; much of NJ: Dense Fog Advisories this morning. Major highways impacted include I-76, I-78, I-80, I-95, PA and NJ Turnpikes, Garden State Parkway.

Far west MD; west-central VA Blue Ridge mountains above 2000 feet: Winter Storm Watches Friday and Friday evening. Mixed precipitation with up to 1/4 inch ice possible. I-68 impacted.
