** Heads Up ** A dangerous severe weather outbreak along much of the Mississippi valley with intense, long-lived tornadoes is likely this afternoon and tonight. Areas at greatest risk: I-80 from Des Moines to Peoria; I-40 from Little Rock to Memphis. High winds spread from New Mexico to Pennsylvania.

Pacific:

— WA and OR Cascades: Winter Storm Warnings late this afternoon through Sunday above 2500 feet. 10-20 inches snow. Gusts to 40 mph. I-90 impacted.

— Northwest OR Coastal Mountains: Winter Storm Warnings through Sunday night above 1500 feet. 4-8 inches snow, except up to 16 inches snow above 2000 feet. Wind gusts to 40 mph. US-101 impacted.

— Central and northeast OR: Winter Storm Warnings (Blue Mountains) and Advisories tonight through Sunday above 4000 feet. 4-7 inches of snow except 8-15 inches in the Blue Mountains. Wind gusts to 40 mph. I-84, US-20, US-26, US-395 impacted.

— South-central OR and portions of northwest CA: Winter Storm Warnings tonight through Sunday night above 2500 feet. 8-22 inches and gusts to 45 mph. I-5, US-97, US-395 impacted.

Mountain:

— Portions of northwest MT and adjacent northern ID; southwest MT; central ID; northwest WY: Winter Storm Watches Saturday. Snow accumulations generally 3-8 inches and wind gusts to 50 mph. I-15, I-90, US-89, US-26 impacted.

— Much of northwest and north-central MT: High Wind Watches Saturday night and Sunday. Gusts to 60 mph. I-15 impacted.

— Northwest MT: Dense Fog Advisory this morning. I-15 impacted.

— Southwest MT: High Wind Watch Saturday. Gusts to 60 mph. I-15 impacted.

— Southeast and south-central MT: Winter Weather Advisories continue through this morning. Another couple of inches of snow possible. I-90, I-94 impacted.

— South-central ID: Wind Advisory through midday today. Gusts to 55 mph. I-84 impacted.

— Southeast ID; north-central and central UT: Winter Storm Warnings and Advisories through midday today. An additional 2-6 inches snow and wind gusts to 50 mph. I-15, I-70, I-80, I-84 impacted.

— Portions of west-central, central and southeast WY: High Wind Warnings and Watches Saturday and Sunday. Gusts to 65 mph. I-25, I-80 impacted.

— South-central WY; much of western CO: Winter Storm Warnings and Advisories today. 3-6 inches snow and wind gusts to 55 mph. This region is just south of I-80 in WY. I-70 impacted.

— Much of eastern CO; central and eastern NM; southwest NM: High Wind Warnings and Advisories today. Gusts 50-65 mph. I-10, I-25, I-40, I-70, I-76 impacted.

Central:

— SD; south-central and southeast ND; northern NE; central and southern MN; northern WI: BLIZZARD WARNINGS (central and eastern SD), Winter Storm Warnings and Advisories today and tonight. Snow accumulations between 4-12 inches and wind gusts as high as 55 mph. I-29, I-35, I-90, I-94 impacted.

— Eastern NE; most of KS; most of OK; western and northern TX (including the Panhandle); northern LA; west-central and northern MS; AR; TN; KY; MO; most of IL; central and southern IA: High Wind Warnings and Advisories today and tonight. Widespread wind gusts 50-60 mph. I-10, I-20, I-22, I-27, I-29, I-30, I-35, I-40, I-44, I-55, I-57, I-64, I-70, I-80 impacted.

— OK and TX Panhandles: Blowing Dust Advisory mid-morning through this evening. I-27, I-40 impacted.

— Central and eastern IA; southern WI; IL; MO; AR; northeast and east-central TX; northern LA; central and northern MS; northwest and northern AL; western and central TN and KY: Intense and widespread severe thunderstorms are expected Friday afternoon into the overnight hours. Damaging gusts and tornadoes will be the main hazards. Some tornadoes may be long-lasting with an extensive track. There are two areas at highest risk: the first is southeast IA and northwest IL including Des Moines, Cedar Rapids, Davenport and Iowa City. The second is in the Mid-South from Little Rock to Memphis to Paducah. Everyone though in this entire region needs to be alert for dangerous severe weather. Remember, your RV is never a tornado shelter. Major highways potentially impacted include I-20, I-22, I-24, I-30, I-35, I-39, I-40, I-44, I-45, I-49, I-55, I-57, I-64, I-70, I-72, I-74, I-80, I-88.

— Much of AR; southeast MO; southern IL; western and central KY and TN; northern MS and AL: Slight risk of flash flooding this afternoon and tonight from excessive thunderstorm rainfall. Rain rates may approach 2 inches per hour and total rainfall amounts could reach 5 inches in isolated locations. I-20, I-22, I, 24, I-30, I-40, I-49, I-55, I-57, I-64, I-65 potentially impacted.

— Southern AR; northern LA; central MS: Slight risk of flash flooding Sunday. 2-4 inches of rain are possible. I-20, I-30, I-49, I-55 potentially impacted.

Eastern:

— MI Upper Peninsula: Winter Weather Advisory continues this morning. Mixed precipitation with 1-3 additional inches of accumulation possible. I-75, US-2, US-41 impacted.

— MI Upper Peninsula: Winter Storm Watch this evening through Saturday afternoon. A second more powerful storm may produce snow totals in excess of 6 inches and wind gusts to 50 mph. I-75, US-2, US-41 impacted.

— IN; western OH; central KY and TN: Although the greatest threat is to the west of this region in the central time zone, Intense and widespread severe thunderstorms are expected this afternoon into the overnight hours. Damaging gusts and tornadoes will be the main hazards. Some tornadoes may be long-lasting with an extensive track. I-40, I-64, I-65, I-69, I-70, I-71, I-74, I-80/90/IN Toll Road potentially impacted.

— Much of PA; western, central and southern NY: Slight risk of severe thunderstorms Saturday. Damaging winds gusts are the primary threat. I-70, I-76, I-78, I-79, I-80, I-81, I-83, I-86, I-87, I-88, I-90, I-99, PA Turnpike, NY Thruway potentially impacted.

— IN and adjacent southern MI; western and southern OH; KY; TN: Wind Advisories this evening and Saturday. Gusts to 50 mph. I-26, I-40, I-64, I-65, I-69, I-70, I-71, I-75, I-77, I-80, I-90, I-94, OH Turnpike, IN Toll Road impacted.

— South-central and southwest PA; WV; central and western MD; northwest and western VA; western NC: High Wind Watches Saturday and Saturday night. Gusts 60-65 mph. I-26, I-40, I-64, I-66, I-68, I-70, I-76, I-77, I-79, PA Turnpike impacted.

— Southeast VA Tidewater region; eastern NC; eastern SC; central and southern GA; eastern FL Panhandle: Widely scattered strong to severe thunderstorms may produce damaging wind gusts and large hail on Saturday. I-10, I-16, I-26, I-40, I-64, I-75, I-85, I-95 potentially impacted.
