Three things to know about Travel and RV Weather Sunday 7 May


  • Severe thunderstorms with very large hail, hurricane force gusts, and isolated tornadoes will be possible across parts of the mid-Missouri Valley this evening and tonight.
  • Severe thunderstorms also possible across the Southern Plains this evening and mid-Mississippi Valley Monday.
  • Heavy rains from eastern Iowa to eastern Kentucky today and Monday.

Pacific:

— North-central WA: Flood Advisories and Watches for a combination of rain and snowmelt. US-97 potentially impacted.

— Northeast OR: Flood Advisories in effect due to a combination of rain and snowmelt. I-84, US-26 potentially impacted.

— Northeast CA; northwest and central NV: Strong winds Monday afternoon and evening. Gusts 30-40 mph. I-80, US-50, US-95, US-395 impacted.

— Southern CA Antelope Valley: Wind Advisory this afternoon and tonight. Gusts to 40 mph. CA-14 impacted.

Mountain:

— Much of west-central, south-central and southeast ID: FLOOD WARNINGS, Advisories and Watches due to snowmelt. I-15 potentially impacted.

— East-central WY: Strong winds this afternoon and evening. Gusts to 40 mph. I-25 impacted.

Northeast WY; northwest and north-central SD: Strong to marginally severe thunderstorms possible late this afternoon. Damaging wind gusts are the primary hazard. I-90 potentially impacted.

— Southeast and east-central CO; northeast and east-central NM: Red Flag (fire danger) Warnings this afternoon. Wind gusts this afternoon 30-40 mph. Gusts Monday afternoon 25-35 mph. I-25, I-40 impacted.

— Northwest NM: Strong winds this afternoon and evening. Gusts 30-40 mph. I-40 impacted.

Central:

— Northeast WY; northwest and north-central SD: Strong to marginally severe thunderstorms possible late this afternoon. Damaging wind gusts are the primary hazard. I-90 potentially impacted.

— OK Panhandle and north TX Panhandle: Strong winds this afternoon and evening. Gusts 30-40 mph.

— Portions of northeast and southern MN; central, western and northern IA; adjacent southwest WI: Dense Fog Advisories through mid-morning. I-35, I-80, I-90 impacted.

Eastern NE; northeast KS; ;IA; northern MO; northwest IL: Severe thunderstorms with very large hail, hurricane force winds and isolated tornadoes will be possible this evening and tonight. Greatest risk along I-80 from eastern NE to western IL. I-29, I-35, I-39, I-74, I-80, I-88 potentially impacted.

Eastern IA and northern IL: Slight risk of flash flooding today and tonight from excessive rainfall. 1-3 inches of rain possible. Greatest risk of flash flooding is over IA. I-39, I-55, I-57, I-74, I-80, I-88, I-90 potentially impacted.

North-central TX and adjacent south-central OK: Severe thunderstorms with large hail and damaging winds possible late this afternoon and this evening. I-20, I-35 potentially impacted.

Southern MO; southern IL: Severe thunderstorms with wind damage and isolated large hail possible on Monday. A tornado or two is also possible. I-44, I-55, I-59, I-64, I-70 potentially impacted.

— Southern KS; northern OK: Severe thunderstorms possible Tuesday with isolated large hail and marginally severe winds. I-35 potentially impacted.

— Western and central KY; western TN: Heavy rains today and Monday. 1-3 inches of rain likely over many areas. I-22, I-24, I-40, I-64, I-65, I-69, I-71, I-75 potentially impacted.

Eastern:

— Western and central KY; western TN: Heavy rains today and Monday. 1-3 inches of rain likely over many areas. I-22, I-24, I-40, I-64, I-65, I-69, I-71, I-75 potentially impacted.
