RV Weather Impacts May 4th – May 16th

Big Picture:

  • Big cold late winter-like storm makes its way through the West and into the Rockies by Monday, bringing extensive strong winds and mountain snows.
  • Severe weather hazards return to the Central Plains on Monday, then spreads eastward to the Ohio Valley on Tuesday and Wednesday.
  • First real heat wave for the South expected by late next week. Heat index could reach 110 deg F in southern Texas.

Weather highlights for this weekend and the coming week

  • Strong winds along the West Coast from Canada to Mexico on Saturday.
  • These winds move into the Great Basin, Inter-Mountain West, Southwest, Rockies and High Plains over the weekend and into early next week. All east-west interstates impacted.
  • Accumulating snow this weekend across the Oregon Cascades, Northern California and the Sierra Nevada.
  • Snow in the Montana and Wyoming Rockies Monday, with a rain/snow mix lingering throughout much of the week.
  • Severe weather breaks out on Monday across the Central Plains. Severe weather spreads to the Ohio Valley Tuesday and Wednesday.
  • Most locations will see average or above average precipitation. The exception is Florid which will be drier than normal.
  • Colder than normal in the West; much warmer than normal in the East.
  • A rainy weekend in the East. Rain again in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast this Wednesday and again next weekend.

Extended outlooks are more general in nature and higher level than the daily short term forecasts. Beyond a week, there is often significant uncertainty in the exact timing, location and intensity of specific weather events.

  • Strong winds return to the Southwest next weekend.
  • Heavy rains with some potential for flooding across the Mid-South and Tennessee Valley next weekend.
  • Excessive heat becomes an impact across southern Texas and the Gulf Coast. Heat index values may reach 110 deg F across southern Texas.
  • Much of the West Coast will be drier than normal.
