  • Winter Storm Warnings: Heavy snow with significant accumulations may severely impact mountain travel across the Washington Cascades and portions of the Oregon Cascades today and this morning.
  • Strong winds: Gusty winds may create difficult driving conditions for high-profile vehicles across much of the West, Rockies, Plains, Midwest, and parts of the East today and on Sunday.

Weather Impacts Pacific Time Zone:

WA Cascades: Winter Storm Warnings today. Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 1 to 2 feet at Snoqualmie and Stevens Passes, with locations like Paradise and Mount Baker receiving closer to 2 to 3 feet of snow. I-90, US-2, US-12 impacted.

Most of west-central and southwest WA; northwest and west-central OR: Flood Watches with embedded FLOOD WARNINGS continue through this afternoon. Although heavy rain has ended, widespread river flooding continues. Slower reacting rivers may stay in flood stage through this afternoon. I-5, I-84, I-90, US-2, US-12, US-20, US-26, US-97, US-101 impacted.

OR Northern and Central Cascades: Winter Storm Warnings and Advisories continue this morning. Snow. Additional snow accumulations 1 to 3 inches at pass level, and 4 to 8 inches above 5000-5500 feet. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph.  US-20, US-26, OR-58 impacted.

Coastal CA between San Francisco and Eureka; northeast CA; much of interior CA between Redding and Bakersfield: Flood Watches this afternoon through Friday after Christmas: A series of warm atmospheric rivers will bring moderate to heavy rain to the Valley, foothills, and mountains the week of Christmas. The prolonged period of rain will bring the risk of flooding to the Sacramento Valley, northern San Joaquin Valley, northern Sierra Nevada and adjacent foothills, as well as the Coastal Range. Major highways impacted include I-5, I-80, US-50, US-101, CA-99.

CA Sierra Nevada Mountains: Winter Storm Watches Tuesday evening through Friday morning. Heavy snow possible. Accumulation amounts uncertain at this time but may range from around a foot at 5500 feet and up 4 feet at highest elevations. Winds could gust as high as 45 mph. Snow accumulations will remain near or above pass level through Tuesday, then drop to around 5500 feet during the day Wednesday.  I-80, US-50 impacted.

— Much of central CA including the San Francisco and Monterey Bay areas, the Delta Region, the Sacramento Valley; northeast CA; much of the eastern slopes of the Sierra Nevada; much of central and northern NV; south-central and southeast OR; southwest ID: Strong winds on Sunday. Wind gusts 30-45 mph. Strongest winds on the eastern slopes of the Sierra Nevada. I-5, I-80, US-50, US-93, I-95, US-6, US-101, US-395, CA-1 impacted.

Weather Impacts Mountain Time Zone:

Central ID: Winter Weather Advisories continue this morning. Snow. Additional snow accumulations up to 6 inches. Wind gusts up to 40 mph. US-12 impacted.

Northwest MT along the Continental Divide and Rocky Mountain Front: Winter Weather Advisories continue through late this morning. Additional snow accumulations between 2 and 6 inches. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph.  US-2, US-89 impacted.

— MT along and east of the Rockies; western, central and southern WY; north-central and central CO: Strong winds today. Wind gusts generally less than 50 mph. I-15, I-25, I-70, I-80, I-90 impacted.

Northwest MT Rocky Mountain Front: Strong winds tonight. Wind gusts 40-50 mph. I-15, US-2, US-89 impacted.

— Northeast MT: Cold Weather Advisory this morning. Wind chill values as low as -30°F.

South-central MT Absaroka/Beartooth Mountains: Winter Storm Watch Sunday morning through Monday afternoon. 1-2 feet of snow expected, mainly on west-facing slopes. Wind gusts to 40 mph. US-212 impacted.

Central ID; northwest and west-central WY: Heavy snow late tonight through Sunday night. 3-7 inches in the valleys and 1-2 feet at Pass level. Snow levels start at the Valley Floors, but rise to 8000 feet by Sunday night. US-12, US-14, US-16, US-20, US-26, US-89, US-93, US-191, U-287 impacted.

Parts of northeast UT Wasatch Mountains: Winter Weather Advisory continues today. Snow. Total accumulations 6-12 inches. Wind gusts to 55 mph. This region is bounded by US-40 to the south and I-80 to the west.

Much of western, central and southern WY; parts of central and eastern CO: Strong winds on Sunday. Wind gusts 35-50 mph. I-25, I-70, I-80, US-20, US-26, US-30, US-34, US-36, US-40, US-50, US-287 impacted.

South-central WY; north-central and central CO: Winter Weather Advisories continue today and early tonight. Snow and blowing snow expected. Total snow accumulations ranging from 2-6 inches in the I-70 mountain corridor to 3-8 inches in the northern tier of mountains. Up to 12 inches or more can be expected in the Park Range north of Rabbit Ears Pass. Winds gusting as high as 60 mph, strongest today. I-70, US-34, US-36, US-40, US-285 impacted. I-80 is just north of this region.

Portions of north-central and central NM: Wind Advisories this morning. Wind gusts to 55 mph. I-40, US-54, US-60, US-64, US-285 impacted.

Weather Impacts Central Time Zone:

A portion of northeast ND: Winter Weather Advisory this morning. Widespread blowing snow. Wind gusts to 50 mph. US-2 impacted.

— Central and eastern ND; northeast SD; northern and central MN; northern and central WI: Strong winds today. Wind gust 35-45 mph. I-29, I-35, I-39, I-43, I-94, US-2, US-10, US-52, US-59, U-75, US-281 impacted.

— Southwest TX Panhandle: Red Flag (fire danger) Warning late this morning through this evening. Wind gusts to 35 mph. I-27, US-62, US-82, US-84, US-87, US-380 impacted.

— Southern TX: Dense Fog Advisory this morning. I-2, I-69E, US-59, US-77, US-83, US-281 impacted.

— MI Upper Peninsula Keweenaw Peninsula: Wind Advisory midday today into tonight. Wind gusts to 45 mph. US-41, US-45 impacted.

— Central IN; northern OH: Strong winds today. Wind gusts to 35 mph. I-65, I-69, I-71, I-74, I-75, I-76, I-80, I-90, OH Turnpike impacted.

NY downwind of Lake Ontario: Lake Effect Snow on Sunday. 3-6 inches likely. I-81, US-11 impacted.

— NY Adirondack Mountains; central and south-central PA; far-western MD; northeast and east-central VA: Strong winds on Sunday. Wind gusts 30-40 mph. I-68, I-70, I-76, I-87, I-99, US-11, US-22, US-30, US-33, US-250, US-322 impacted.

Central and northern NH; interior ME: Wind Advisories this morning. Wind gusts 45-50 mph. I-91, I-93, I-95, US-1, US-2, US-3, US-201 impacted.
