These are the most significant weather impacts to RV travel over the next two to three days. I do not list every area of rain, showers, or breezy winds. It would be exhausting (for both of us!).
Weather Impacts Pacific Time Zone:
— South-central, southeast and east-central OR; southwest ID; most of northern and central NV; northeast CA: and adjacent northeast CA: Red Flag (fire danger) Warnings this afternoon through Sunday evening. Hot and dry conditions, with high fire potential in dry lightning strikes. Wind gusts 25-35 mph. I-80, I-84, US-6, US-20, US-26, US-50, US-93, US-95, US-97, US-395 impacted.
— CA Sierra Nevada including Yosemite National Park; eastern CA east of the Sierras and north of Death Valley: Red Flag (fire danger) Warnings Saturday and Sunday for dry lighting. Light winds except strong gusts near thunderstorm outflows. I-80, US-6, US-50, US-395, CA-14, CA-58, CA-120 potentially impacted.
— Much of central and eastern WA; northern ID; southern, central and eastern OR; northern NV; much of CA, especially north of Los Angeles and west of the Sierra Nevada: A combination of Excessive Heat Warnings and Advisories today and Sunday. High temperatures will range from the 90’s and lower 100’s for WA and OR, to 100-115 deg for large portions of CA away from the coast. Temperatures in Death Valley will range from 125-130 deg F. Hottest day will be today.
Weather Impacts Mountain Time Zone:
— East-central ID; portions of northwest and west-central WY along the Absaroka and Wind River Ranges: Strong winds this afternoon and evening. Wind gusts to 30 mph. I-15, US-14, US-16, US-26, US-93 impacted.
— Central and southwest MT: Red Flag (fire danger) Warnings today. Wind gusts to 35 mph. I-15, I-90, US-12, US-87, US-89, US-191, US-287 impacted.
— North-central and much of eastern MT: Multiple clusters of strong to severe thunderstorms are possible today. Large hail and severe wind gusts are the primary hazards. I-94, US-2 potentially impacted.
— Central and southeast MT; north-central, central and southeast WY; eastern CO: Heat Advisories today and Sunday. High temperatures mostly 95-105 deg F.
— East-central WY: Red Flag (fire danger) Warning today. Hot, dry conditions. Wind gusts to 25 mph. I-25, US-18, US-20 impacted.
— Central and southwest UT: Red Flag (fire danger) warnings today. Hot and dry conditions, Scattered thunderstorms, dry lighting, and wind gusts up to 40 mph in the vicinity of thunderstorm outflows create high potential for wildfires. I-15, I-70, US-50, US-89 impacted.
— Southern ID; much of UT: Excessive Heat Warnings and Advisories today into tonight. High temperatures will range from the upper 90’s in ID to 102-106 deg across much of UT.
— South-central and southwest AZ: Excessive Heat Warnings today. High temperatures 107-115 deg F. I-8, I-10, I-17 impacted.
Weather Impacts Central Time Zone:
— Much of ND, SD, MN, WI: Multiple clusters of strong to severe thunderstorms are possible today. Severe wind gusts across western ND and western SD are the primary hazards. I-29, I-35, I-39, I-41, I-43, I-90, I-94 potentially impacted.
— Much of central and eastern ND; northwest MN: Strong to severe thunderstorms possible on Sunday. I-29, I-94 potentially impacted.
— Southeast ND; western and southeast MN; central, southern, and eastern SD; NE; western and southern IA; much of KS; northwest MO: Heat Advisories today and Sunday. Heat index values generally between 101-108 deg F.
— Southeast MN; central and southern WI; northern IL: Strong to severe thunderstorms possible on Monday. I-35, I-39, I-41, I-43, I-55, I-57, I-80, I-88, I-90, I-94 potentially impacted.
— Southwest and central KS: Strong winds this afternoon. Gusts to 30 mph. I-35, I-70, US-50, US-83 impacted.
— Eastern LA; south and southwest MS; coastal AL; western FL Panhandle: Heat Advisories today and Sunday. Heat index values may reach 112 deg F.
Weather Impacts Eastern Time Zone:
— Northwest IN; southwest MI: Strong to severe thunderstorms possible Monday. I-69, I-80, I-90, I-94, I-96, IN Toll Road potentially impacted.
— Much of MA; north-central and northwest CT; RI: Flood Watches continue through this evening. Heavy rains, showers and thunderstorms may bring 1-3 inches of rain and associated flooding across this region. I-84, I-90, I-91, I-95, Mass Pike impacted.
— Southern NY; northern and central NJ; southeast PA; northern and central DE; portions of MD Eastern Shore and central MD: Flood Watches continue through this afternoon. Heavy rains will bring 1-2 inches of rain across the region. Rainfall rates may reach 1-2 inches per hour. Some localized areas may see up to 3 inches of rain. I-70, I-76, I-78, I-80, I-84, I-87, I-95, PA and NJ Turnpikes, Garden State Parkway impacted.
— Central, south-central and southeast PA; most of NJ; Greater NYC region: Heat Advisories and Excessive Heat Watches Sunday through Tuesday: Expect heat index values of 101-108 deg F.
— Southeast FL: Heat Advisory today. Heat index values around 107 deg F.
