** Heads Up ** Unusually strong winds Thursday over much of the Midwest from Illinois to Ohio. Wind gusts to 60 mph. Also a threat for significant severe weather this evening and tonight across the Lower Mississippi Valley.


  • Snow and strong winds move out of the northern Rockies and spread across the Plains and into the Midwest on Thursday.
  • Heavy rains and some flash flooding today across parts of Oklahoma, Arkansas and Missouri.
  • Snowstorm for eastern Iowa and southern Wisconsin Thursday.

Pacific:

— Northwest WA, southeast Olympic Peninsula: Flood Watch through Wednesday morning for excessive rainfall. This area is west of I-5.

WA Cascades above 3500 feet: Winter Storm Warnings (north) and Advisories through Wednesday morning. 8-12 inches snow possible. Wind gusts to 50 mph. I-90 impacted.

South-central WA: Wind Advisory through Wednesday morning. Gusts to 55 mph. US-97 impacted.

— Southeast WA and north-central OR: Wind Advisories this afternoon through Wednesday morning. Gusts to 45 mph. I-84, US-12, US-395 impacted.

— OR northern and central Cascades above 4500 feet: Winter Weather Advisories through late tonight. 5-10 inches snow. Wind gusts to 45 mph.

— CA central and southern San Joaquin Valley, east side: Dense Fog Advisories through mid-morning. CA-99 impacted.

Southern CA mountains and valleys north and northeast of Los Angeles: Wind Advisory through early this afternoon. Gusts to 50 mph. I-5, I-210, I-405, US-101 impacted.

Mountain:

North-central and central ID, and adjacent northwest MT: Winter Weather Advisories this afternoon through late morning Wednesday. 5-10 inches snow expected. I-90 impacted.

— MT Rocky Mountain Front: Winter Storm Warnings and Advisories this afternoon through Wednesday. 3 inches snow on the Plains and 5-10 inches snow in the mountains. Wind gusts up to 65 mph.

MT Along and east of the Rocky Mountain Front: High Wind Warning this morning. A second High Wind Warning this evening through Wednesday afternoon. Gusts 70-80 mph. I-15 impacted.

— Central and north-central MT: High Wind Watch late tonight and Wednesday. Gusts to 60 mph. US-87/191 and MT-200 impacted.

Central and south-central MT, including the Beartooth and Livingston Area: High Wind Warnings and Advisories through Wednesday morning. Gusts 60-65 mph. I-90 impacted.

— Portions of southeast ID: Freezing Fog Advisory through midday today. I-15 impacted.

— Portions of west-central WY, Teton and Gros Ventre Mountains: Winter Weather Advisories tonight and Wednesday. 5-9 inches snow and wind gusts to 50 mph.

Southeast WY: High Wind Watch late tonight through Wednesday: Gusts to 65 mph. I-25, I-80 impacted.

MT east of the Rocky Mountains; most all of WY: Strong winds across both states develop late Wednesday morning and continue through the evening. Widespread gusts 40-55 mph. I-15, I-25, I-80 I-90, I-94 impacted.

— Northwest CO: Dense Fog Advisory this morning.

West-central and portions of central NM: Winter Weather Advisories through this evening. 2-6 inches snow. I-40 impacted both west and east of Albuquerque.

Central:

Much of coastal and southeast TX between Corpus Christi and Houston: Isolated strong to possibly severe thunderstorms are possible this evening and tonight. Main threats will be damaging wind gusts and a tornado or two. I-10, I-45 potentially impacted.

Northeast TX; eastern OK; western AR: Slight risk of flash flooding this afternoon and tonight from heavy rains. I-20, I-30, I-40 potentially impacted.

— Central and northern AR; southern MO: Slight risk of flash flooding Wednesday and Wednesday night from heavy rains. I-40, I-55 potentially impacted.

LA; southeast AR; central and western MS: Severe thunderstorms possible Wednesday and Wednesday night. Thunderstorms may be accompanied by damaging winds, a few tornadoes and large hail. I-10, I-12, I-49, I-55, I-59 potentially impacted.

— Southern AL; FL Panhandle: A few severe thunderstorms are possible Thursday. I-10, I-65 potentially impacted.

Eastern:

— Northern MI Lower Peninsula and eastern MI Upper Peninsula: Winter Weather Advisories through late morning for a combination of snow, sleet and freezing rain. Up to an inch of snow and a little bit of ice. I-75 impacted.

— Southeast MI; central and northern OH; northeast KY; western PA; western NY: Strong Winds midday today. Gusts 30-45 mph. I-69, I-70, I-71, I-75, I-76, I-77, I-79, I-80, I-81, I-86, I-90, I-94, I-96, NY Thruway, OH Turnpike impacted.

Most of IN; eastern KY; WV; OH; southern MI; western PA; western NY: Strong winds Thursday. Gusts 35-50 mph.

MA except southeast portion of state; southern VT and NH: Winter Weather Advisories this evening and tonight for a combination of snow, sleet and freezing rain. Up to an inch of snow and a little bit of ice. A mixture of snow and rain may extend into northern CT, northern RI and eastern MA. I-84, I-90, I-91, I-93, I-95, Mass Pike impacted.

— Southwest GA and adjacent northern FL: A few severe thunderstorms are possible Thursday. I-10, I-75 potentially impacted.
