** Heads Up ** As of Wednesday morning, ALL entrances to Yellowstone National Park remain CLOSED until at least through next weekend due to Flash Floods and extensive infrastructure damage inside the Park. The northern portion of the Park is closed until further notice. If you are planning to visit Yellowstone in the near future, check their website for latest conditions. You can also text “82190” to 888-777 and receive their latest road status and updates.


  • Dangerous heat continues from the Midwest to the Southeast.
  • Significant severe weather outbreak and flash flooding possible today for portions of the Upper Midwest and northern Michigan.
  • Slight risk of severe thunderstorms today and tonight from the Central Appalachians to the Southeast.

Pacific:

— Southeast CA Deserts: Excessive Heat Warning Thursday. High temperatures 107-113 deg F. I-8, I-10 impacted.

Mountain:

— Northwest MT: Flood Advisory through mid-morning for a combination of excessive rainfall and snowmelt.

— Central MT: Winter Weather Advisory through midday today above 6000 feet. 2-5 inches snow likely.

Central and northern MT east of the Rockies: High Wind Warnings today. Gusts 60-70 mph. I-15, I-94 impacted.

Northern and northwestern boundaries of Yellowstone National Park; Yellowstone River through south-central MT: Flood Warnings continue through Thursday evening. All of Yellowstone NP remains closed to visitors for the next few days, at a minimum. The northern portion of the Park will be closed for weeks to months.

— Central, southwest and south-central AZ: Excessive Heat Warnings for Thursday. Temperatures 107-113 deg F. I-8, I-10 impacted.

Central:

Western and central ND; northwest and north-central SD: High Wind Warnings and Advisories today and tonight. Wind gusts 50-65 mph. Strongest winds in the western part of this region. I-94 impacted.

— Central and southern MN; most of WI: Wind gusts 30-40 mph Thursday afternoon. Advisories possible. I-35, I-43, I-90, I-94 impacted.

Central and eastern IA; southeast MN; northwest IL; most of WI: Scattered severe thunderstorms expected today and tonight. Several tornadoes, large or very large hail and damaging winds are likely. Some tornadoes could be strong. I-29, I-35, I-43, I-90, I-94 potentially impacted.

— Southeast WI; southeast IA; IL; northern and eastern MO; TN; KY; northeast AR; northern MS; AL; FL Panhandle: A combination of heat advisories and excessive heat warnings through Wednesday for the northern portion of this region and Thursday elsewhere.

Central and southern AL; southeast MS: Isolated severe thunderstorms late this afternoon and evening. Damaging wind gusts are the primary threat. I-10, I-20, I-65, I-85 potentially impacted.

Eastern:

MI Upper Peninsula and northern Lower Peninsula: Scattered severe thunderstorms expected today and tonight. Several tornadoes, large or very large hail and damaging winds are likely. Some tornadoes could be strong. I-75, US-2, US-41 potentially impacted.

— MI central and northern Lower Peninsula: Wind gusts 30-45 mph Thursday afternoon. Advisories probable. I-75 impacted.

Portions of western VA; central NC; SC west of I-95; most of GA; FL Panhandle: Isolated severe thunderstorms late this afternoon and evening. Damaging wind gusts are the primary threat. I-10, I-16, I-20, I-26, I-40, I-64, I-75, I-77 I-85 potentially impacted.

— Eastern and central OH; northern WV; western and central MD; most of PA; western, central and northern NY: Scattered severe thunderstorms on Thursday. Damaging winds should be the main threat, but a few tornadoes and some large hail may also occur. I-68, I-70, I-76, I-77, I-79, I-80, I-81, I-84, I-88, I-90, I-99, OH and PA Turnpikes, NY Thruway potentially impacted.

— Southern MI; IN; most of OH; KY; TN; most of NC; SC; GA; northern FL: A combination of heat advisories and excessive heat warnings through Wednesday.
