  • Heavy showers and thunderstorms may produce flash flooding in central and southwest Texas through the week.
  • Excessive heat returns to southern and central CA through early next week.
  • Watching the tropics heat up, but Labor Day weekend travel plans look to be safe.

Pacific:

— Southern and much of interior Central CA; southern NV: Excessive Heat Warnings and Watches for the remainder of this week, starting this afternoon. High temperatures will range from 100-110 deg F in the San Joaquin Valley to 105-115 deg F in the Mojave and southern Deserts and 115-123 deg F in Death Valley. The heat spreads north into the Sacramento Valley later this week. I-5, I-8, I-10, I-15, I-40, CA-58, CA-99 among the highways impacted.

Mountain:

— Western AZ: Excessive Heat Warnings through Wednesday. High temperatures 105 – 113 deg F. I-8, I-10, I-40 impacted.

— Portions of south-central AZ: Excessive Heat Warning through Wednesday. High temperatures 105-111 deg F. I-10, I-17 impacted.

— Southeast NM and portions of western TX: Flash Flood Watches this afternoon through tonight for excessive rainfall. Locally 1-3 inches of rainfall are possible. I-10, I-20 potentially impacted.

Central:

— Portions of western TX: Flash Flood Watches this afternoon through this evening for excessive rainfall. Locally 1-3 inches of rainfall are possible. I-10, I-20 potentially impacted.

— Portions of central and south-central TX: Continued local areas of heavy showers and thunderstorms may lead to flash flooding. Up to 1-3 inches of additional rainfall possible. I-10 potentially impacted.

— Southeast and south-central MO: Dense Fog Advisory this morning. I-44 impacted.

Eastern:

— Isolated strong to locally severe thunderstorms may produce pockets of wind damage mainly during afternoon and early evening across parts of VA northwards to NY and into northern New England.

— Portions of southeast GA and adjacent SC: Dense Fog Advisory this morning. I-16 impacted.
