  • ** High Impact Weather Day Wednesday ** Very difficult travel conditions across much of the Central U.S.
    • Widespread very strong winds with gusts 40-55 mph from the Gulf Coast to the Great Lakes.
    • Significant severe weather likely across the Deep South.
    • Snow in the Upper Midwest.
    • Freezing rain across Michigan and Wisconsin.

  • Severe thunderstorms may develop across the southern Plains, Mississippi Valley, and Southeast U.S. tonight into Wednesday.
  • Potential for a major outbreak of severe weather over Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama Wednesday afternoon and evening.
  • Very strong and gusty winds develop this afternoon over eastern New Mexico and the Texas and Oklahoma Panhandles. These winds spread overnight across much of the Central and Southern Plains, and throughout the lower and mid-Mississippi Valley on Wednesday.

The daily forecasts will now be much lower bandwidth and have many fewer graphics. Those graphics will be targeted to specific weather situations of interest for that particular forecast. Let me know what you think of the changes!!

— CA Ventura and Los Angeles Counties’ mountains, Mojave Desert Slopes, and Antelope Valley: Wind Advisories through tonight. Gusts 40-50 mph. I-5, I-10, CA-58 impacted.

Mountain:

— Central MT Cascade County: Winter Weather Advisory until midday today. Up to 2 additional inches of snow.

— WY Wind River Mountains: Winter Weather Advisories tonight through Wednesday morning above 7500 feet. Additional snow accumulation 3-7 inches. Wind gusts to 40 mph.

— Northeast WY, adjacent west-central SD Black Hills: Winter Weather Advisories this afternoon and Wednesday. 1-4 inches snow lower elevations and 3-7 inches in the higher elevations. Gusts to 35 mph. I-90 impacted.

Central and north-central WY including Bighorn Basin, Wind River Basin and northeast Johnson County: High Wind Warnings today and this evening. Gusts 50-60 mph. I-25, I-90 impacted.

Southwest ND, western SD: High Wind Warnings (west-central SD) and Advisories through tonight. Gusts 50-60 mph. I-90 impacted.

— Northeast UT Unita Mountains: Winter Weather Advisories through Wednesday morning. Additional accumulations of 4-8 Inches snow expected. I-80 impacted.

— Portions of southwest UT: Winter Weather Advisories through Wednesday morning. Additional. Accumulations of 3-6 inches snow expected at higher elevations. I-15 impacted.

— North-central, central and east-central AZ above 7000 feet: Winter Weather Advisories today. 2-4 inches snow expected above 7000 feet and 4-8 inches above 8000 feet. I-17, I-40 impacted.

— South-central WY; central CO mountains; north-central NM: Winter Weather Advisories through Wednesday above 9000 feet. Additional accumulation of 4-8 inches snow expected. I-25 (Raton Pass), I-70 impacted.

Eastern, central and southern NM; far-west TX: High Wind Warnings and Advisories late this morning through this evening. Gusts. 55-65 mph. I-10, I-20, I-25, I-40 impacted.

Central:

Eastern and southern KS; central and western OK; northern and western TX: High Wind Warnings and Advisories through this evening. Gusts 45-65 mph. Strongest winds over OK and TX Panhandles. I-20, I-35, I-40, I-44, I-70 impacted.

Eastern TX; LA; AR; southwest MO; southern IL; southern IN; western and central TN; western and central KY; MS; AL: Wind Advisories from west to east starting this afternoon, through Wednesday evening. Widespread wind gusts from the south 40-50 mph. Major highways impacted include I-10, I-12, I-20, I-24, I-30, I-35, I-40, I-45, I-49, I-55, I-59, I-64, I-65.

— Central and southern IA; southeast NE; eastern KS; western MO; central and eastern OK; northeast and central TX: Slight risk of severe thunderstorms late this evening and tonight.

Southeast MO; southwest KY; eastern AR; western and central TN; LA; MS; AL: Expect a significant outbreak of severe weather including potentially strong, longer-lived tornadoes, Wednesday into Wednesday night. Areas at greatest risk are north of I-10 in eastern LA, MS and western AL.

— MN Arrowhead; northern WI: Winter Weather Advisories tonight through Wednesday morning. 1-4 inches of snow, mixed with sleet and freezing rain.

— Eastern MS, AL north of I-10: Heavy rains and flash flooding possible Wednesday and Wednesday night,

Eastern:

— MI: Winter Weather Advisories tonight and Wednesday. 1-3 inches of snow, sleet and freezing rain. Ice accumulations may be up to 1/10th of an inch. I-69, I-75, I-94, I-96 impacted.

Eastern TN along the NC border: High Wind Watch Wednesday afternoon through Thursday morning. Gusts to 80 mph. I-26, I-40 potentially impacted.

— MD; DE; eastern VA; north-central NC; most of GA; northern FL west of I-75: Slight chance of severe thunderstorms Thursday.
