** Heads Up ** Major winter storm impacts much of the country today and Wednesday from New Mexico to Florida and from Texas to Maine.


  • Significant severe weather threat for eastern Texas and the Gulf Coast today and tonight.
  • Snow and freezing rain from New Mexico, up Route 66 to Illinois, then east and northeast into New England.
  • High winds spread from Texas into much of the East, especially along the Gulf Coast.

Pacific:

— No significant weather impacts to RV travel today or Wednesday.

Mountain:

— South-east MT Big Horn Canyon area: Winter Weather Advisory this evening through Wednesday evening. 2-4 inches snow expected. I-90 impacted.

Northeast WY Black Hills: Winter Storm Watch this evening through Wednesday evening. Snow accumulations of 6 or more inches possible. I-90 potentially impacted.

Much of central and eastern NM: Winter Storm Warnings and Advisories continue through midday today. Total snow accumulations generally 3-6 inches except 6-9 inches in higher terrain. Wind gusts to 35 mph. I-25, I-40 impacted. I-10 is OK.

Central:

— Eastern SD; parts of northeast and central IA; portions of central and south-central NE; much of western and central KS: Dense Fog Advisories this morning. I-29, I-35, I-70, I-80, I-90 impacted.

— Much of southern and western TX, bounded by I-35 to the east and I-10 to the north: Wind Advisories mid-morning through this evening. Gusts to 45 mph. I-10, I-20 (near the I-10/I-20 split), I-35 impacted.

Northern TX along and north of I-20 / I-30; OK; south-east and east-central KS; northwest AR; MO; IL south of I-88: Winter Storm Warnings and Advisories through Wednesday. Snow accumulations generally 3-7 inches. Snow will end from west to east, starting midnight tonight over the TX Panhandle, but continue through Wednesday evening over IL. Major highways impacted include I-20, I-24, I-27, I-35, I-39, I-40, I-44, I-55, I-57, I-64, I-70, I-72, I-74, I-80. I-30 is just south of the warned region.

Eastern TX; LA; the southeastern half of AR; western KY; western and central TN; MS; AL; FL Panhandle: High Wind Warnings (along the Gulf Coast from Houston to Pensacola) and Advisories this afternoon through Wednesday morning. Gusts 45-55 mph. Major highways impacted include I-10, I-12, I-20, I-22, I-24, I-30, I-37, I-40, I-55, I-59, I-65, I-69(TX), I-85.

— Southeast TX; most of LA; southwest MS: Slight risk of flash floods today and tonight from heavy rains. I-10, I-20, I-45, I-49 potentially impacted.

TX coast north of Corpus Christi; southern LA; southern MS; southern AL; western FL Panhandle: Severe thunderstorms possible along the TX coast Tuesday afternoon, then spread across southern LA, MS, AL Tuesday night into early Wednesday morning. Damaging winds gusts and tornadoes are anticipated. Expect some tornadoes will be strong. Greatest threat is near the Gulf Coast. These night-time tornado situations are dangerous – make sure you have a way to get tornado warnings in the middle of the night and have your evacuation plan from your RV already thought out. I-10, I-12, I-20, I-45, I-49, I-55, I-59, I-65 potentially impacted.

Eastern:

IN; north-central KY; most of OH; far-southern MI; most of PA except extreme southwest and Philadelphia areas; north-central WV; portions of south-central and southeast NY west of the Hudson Valley; northwest NJ: Winter Storm Warnings (IN and western OH), Watches and Advisories late tonight through Wednesday. Snow accumulations will range from 4-8 inches in IN and western OH to 2-5 inches in PA, NY and NJ. Sleet and freezing rain will likely mix in over the eastern portions of this region. Wind gusts 25-40 mph. Major highways impacted include I-64, I-65, I-68, I-69, I-70, I-71, I-74, I-75, I-76, I-77, I-78, I-79, I-80, I-81, I-83, I-84, I-87, I-88, I-94, IN Toll Road, OH & PA Turnpikes, NY Thruway.

NY Adirondack mountains; southern and central VT; central and western MA; NH; ME: Winter Storm Watches Wednesday afternoon through Thursday evening. Snow in excess of 6 inches, freezing rain, and wind gusts to 45 mph. I-81, I-87, I-89, I-90, I-91, I-93, I-95, Mass Pike impacted.

Eastern TN along the NC Border: High Wind Warnings tonight through Wednesday. Gusts to 75 mph. I-26, I-40 impacted.

Central and eastern TN; extreme southwest VA; most of GA except along the eastern border; much of the FL Panhandle: Wind Advisories this evening through Wednesday. Gusts 40-55 mph. Major highways impacted include I-10, I-16, I-20, I-24, I-26, I-40, I-65, I-75, I-81, I-85.

Southeast VA; eastern and central NC; SC; GA south and east of I-85; southeast AL; northern FL: Strong thunderstorms on Wednesday and evening may turn severe, with the risk of damaging wind gusts and a few tornadoes. I-10, I-16, I-20, I-26, I-40, I-64, I-75, I-77, I-85, I-95 potentially impacted.
