  • Heavy rains and potential for significant flash flooding over southern California from Kay on Friday and Saturday.
  • Flash flood potential over northern Florida and parts of Georgia this weekend.
  • Excessive heat ends over California by Friday.

Pacific:

OR Cascade Mountains: Strong winds Friday. Gusts 40-55 mph.

— Much of interior central and northern CA, west of the Sierra Nevada mountains: Excessive Heat Warnings through Friday. High temperatures 105-115 deg F.

— Southern CA, except the southeast corner of the state; southern NV: Excessive Heat Warning through this evening. High temperatures 100-110 deg F.

Southeast and southern CA, east of the coastal areas: Flood Watches Friday morning through Saturday evening for heavy rains associated with tropical system Kay. Although Kay’s winds will weaken and the center of the storm will turn away from the CA coast, its rains will likely spread across southern CA Friday and Saturday. If you have travel or camping plans across southern CA this weekend please stay informed of the latest forecasts and flood threat. I-8, I-10, I-15, I-40, CA-58 potentially impacted.

Mountain:

— AZ Grand Canyon below 4000 feet: Excessive Heat Warnings through this evening. Temperatures may reach 110 deg F in Phantom Ranch, Grand Canyon.

— Southeast ID; western WY: Strong winds this afternoon. Gusts 30-45 mph. I-15 impacted.

North-central and northeast WY, and adjacent MT and SD: Locally severe thunderstorms possible with damaging wind gusts. I-25, I-90 potentially impacted.

Central:

Northeast and east-central MN; northwest WI and adjacent MI: Locally severe thunderstorms possible with damaging wind gusts and hail. I-35 potentially impacted.

Eastern:

— Eastern NY Hudson and Mohawk Valleys, and adjacent VT and MA: Dense Fog Advisories this morning. I-87, I-90, NY Thruway impacted.

— FL Big Bend Coastal areas: Flood Watch Friday morning through Sunday morning for excessive rainfall associated with a tropical disturbance moving onshore from the Gulf of Mexico. I-10 potentially impacted.

— Northeast FL and southeast GA: Flood Watches today through Saturday night for excessive rainfall. I-10, I-95 potentially impacted.
