Travel & RV Weather Forecast Thursday 2 June


  • Scattered thunderstorms and heavy rain capable of isolated to widely scattered damaging gusts and some flash flooding are possible today in the Mid-Atlantic states.
  • Potential Tropical Cyclone One in the southern Gulf of Mexico is likely to strengthen further. This system will approach southern Florida on Friday, accompanied by some wind, heavy rains and associated flooding into the weekend.

Pacific:

— North-central WA: Flash Flood Watch Thursday afternoon and night due to excessive rain. Flash Flood Watch region is north of I-90.

Mountain:

— Northeast NM and adjacent western TX Panhandle: Widely scattered severe thunderstorms possible Friday. Severe wind gusts and some hail are the most likely threats. I-27, I-40 potentially impacted.

Central:

— Western TX Panhandle and adjacent northeast NM: Widely scattered severe thunderstorms possible Friday. Severe wind gusts and some hail are the most likely threats. I-27, I-40 potentially impacted.

Eastern:

Extreme southern NJ and southeast PA; DE; central and eastern MD; DC; northern and eastern VA: Scattered thunderstorms capable of damaging wind gusts and hail are possible today. Major highways potentially impacted include: I-64, I-66, I-70, I-81, I-83, I-95, NJ Turnpike.

— Central and southern FL: Tropical Storm Watches for Friday afternoon and Saturday.

— Central and southern FL: Stay advised of the latest National Hurricane Center information regarding the tropical disturbance in the southern Gulf of Mexico. Potential Tropical Storm One is likely to become a Tropical Depression or Storm (it would be named ‘Alex’) in the next day or so. The most significant and most likely impacts from this system are breezy conditions to strong winds over the bridges to Key West, and very heavy rainfall starting Friday afternoon, continuing through Saturday. Rainfall amounts over south FL and the Keys could reach 5-9 inches and produce significant flash flooding. If you are in South FL, please follow any directions and guidance given by your local Emergency Managers. I-4, I-75, I-95, US-1 likely impacted.
