  • Strong cold front will sweep through the Northwest U.S. with rain, higher elevation snows and high winds tonight through Friday.
  • Scattered severe thunderstorms are likely this afternoon and tonight across portions of the Upper Midwest and from the Mid-Mississippi Valley into the Carolinas.
  • Early season heat with likely record high temperatures will persist across the Southern U.S. today and will extend into the Ohio Valley, Mid-Atlantic, and Northeast on Friday and Saturday.

Pacific:

— Central WA: Wind Advisory through this evening. Gusts to 45 mph. I-82, I-90 impacted.

— Northern and central CA: Wind Advisory tonight and Friday for the Sacramento Valley, Delta and northern San Joaquin Valley. Gusts to 45 mph. I-5, I-80, CA-99 impacted.

Northern CA Northern and Central Sierra foothills and mountains: Wind Advisories tonight and Friday. Gusts 40-55 mph. I-80, US-50 impacted.

Central and southern CA interior deserts north of I-15, including Mojave Desert: Wind Advisories this afternoon and tonight. Gusts to 55 mph. I-15, I-40, CA-58 impacted.

Southern CA Ventura and Los Angeles County Mountains: Wind Advisories this evening and tonight. Gusts to 55 mph. I-5 impacted.

— East-central and northeast NV: Wind Advisories through this evening. Gusts to 50 mph. I-80, US-50 impacted.

Mountain:

Much of southern ID: Wind Advisories through this evening. Gusts to 55 mph with localized gusts to 65 mph. I-15, I-84 impacted.

Northwest and central MT: Winter Storm Warnings today and tonight above 4000 feet. 3-6 inches snow with gusts to 60 mph at pass levels. I-15 impacted.

Northwest and north-central MT; east-central ID: High Wind Warnings and Advisories through this evening. Gusts 40-60 mph. I-15, I-90 impacted.

Central WY Wind River Basin: High Wind Warning today. Gusts to 60 mph.

Much of southern WY, northeast UT; northwest CO: High Wind Warnings today: Gusts to 60 mph. I-80 highly impacted.

Northeast UT and northwest CO: Wind Advisories late morning Thursday through Thursday evening. Gusts to 55 mph.

Southeast WY; north-central and central CO: Winter Storm Warnings, Watches and Advisories late tonight through Saturday morning. Up to 6-20 inches snow possible in WY, the CO foothills and mountains. Several inches possible along the I-25 corridor in CO. This snow will have heavy impact on trees with their leaves out, creating blocked roads and power outages. Snow does not reach the Denver area and south until Friday afternoon. I-25, I-70, I-80 impacted.

— Much of UT; much of CO: Expect wind gusts 40-50 mph late morning through early evening. Advisories possible. I-15, I-25, I-70 impacted.

— Northeast AZ; northern NM: Expect wind gusts 30-40 mph Friday afternoon. Advisories unlikely. I-25, I-40 impacted.

Central:

West-central SD: Wind Advisory through this afternoon. Gusts to 55 mph. I-90 impacted.

— Much of NE and KS: A few hours of northerly winds gusting 40-50 mph tonight behind the cold front. Advisories possible. I-29, I-35, I-70, I-80 impacted.

Southeast MN; northern and central IA; much of WI: Severe thunderstorms expected to develop this afternoon and evening. Large hail, damaging wind gusts and a couple of tornadoes are possible. I-35, I-43, I-80, I-90, I-94 potentially impacted.

— Parts of eastern ND, northern MN: Flood warnings continue due to excessive rainfall. Some road in the vicinity of I-29 may be impacted.

— Northeast and east-central IL; northwest and west-central IN: Dense Fog Advisories through mid-morning.

— East-central MO, southern IL: Slight chance of severe thunderstorms this afternoon and early evening.

Eastern:

— Southwest IN; most of KY; northeast TN; much of NC; northern SC: Slight chance of severe thunderstorms this afternoon and early evening.

— Northern IN; northwest OH; much of the MI Lower Peninsula: Wind Gusts 30-40 mph Friday afternoon and evening. Advisories possible. Major highways impacted include I-75, I-80, I-90, I-94.

— Eastern FL Panhandle: Dense fog advisories through mid-morning. I-10 impacted.
