  • Threat of isolated severe thunderstorms on Thursday along the East Coast.
  • Blizzard conditions will continue to impact portions of the Northern Plains this morning.
  • Strong winds across parts of the North Plains and Midwest today.
  • Snow and strong winds today and tonight for the California northern and central Sierra Nevada.

Pacific:

—Northwest CA above 4000 feet: Winter Weather Advisories through midday today. 2-4 additional inches of accumulation possible. I-5, US-101 marginally impacted.

CA Northern and Central Sierra Nevada: Winter Weather Advisories through tonight. 6-12 inches snow expected, with up to 20 inches above 7000 feet. I-80, US-50 impacted.

— Central CA Eastern Sierra Mountain slopes and adjacent west-central NV: Wind Advisories through Saturday afternoon. Gusts to 50 mph. I-80, US-395 impacted.

— Southern CA Mojave Desert Slopes: Wind Advisory through mid-morning. Gusts to 50 mph. CA-58 impacted.

Mountain:

— Southwest ID south of I-84 and north of I-80: Winter Weather Advisories until midday today. Additional accumulations of 1-3 inches in the valleys and 3-6 inches over the mountains.

— Most of western WY; adjacent east-central ID: Winter Weather Advisories through Friday morning. Up to 6-10 inches of new snow expected and wind gusts to 40 mph. Travel over passes will become extremely difficult.

Central:

Western and central ND; extreme southeast MT; northwest SD. Blizzard Warnings continue through this evening. Up to 5 inches of additional accumulation. Wind gusts to 50 mph. Snow drifts up to 6 feet in height. I-94 impacted.

— Eastern ND; northwestern and northern MN: Winter Weather Advisories through this evening. 1-3 inches additional snow with gusts to 40 mph. I-29, I-35, I-94 impacted.

Most of SD except far-western portion of state; southern MN; most of WI; much of IA; northern MO; northern and central IL: High Wind Warnings (central and northeast SD) and Advisories (everywhere else) through this evening. Gusts 50-60 mph. Major highways impacted include I-29, I-35, I-39, I-43, I-55, I-57, I-74, I-80, I-90, I-94.

Eastern:

— MI Lower Peninsula and eastern Upper Peninsula; central and northern IN; northwest OH: Wind Advisories this afternoon and evening. Gusts 45-50 mph. I-65, I-69, I-75, I-80, I-90, I-94, I-96 impacted.

Eastern PA; most of NJ; southern NY including New York City; CT; western and central MA: Slight risk this afternoon and evening for scattered strong or severe thunderstorms. Damaging winds gusts are the primary threat.
