Labor Day weekend outlook
- Hot and dry for much of the West, Rockies, and Northern Plains — elevated fire danger.
- Some monsoon rains reappear in Arizona over the weekend
- Cooler and wetter than normal across Texas and the Southeast
- Heaviest rains this weekend along the Texas and Louisiana coasts.
- Dry, cool start to the weekend over the Midwest and Northeast, but rain and warmer temperatures move in by Monday, especially to the Midwest.
- The Atlantic will have one, possibly two, named tropical storms over the weekend — but no threat to the U.S. or holiday travel plans.

Pacific:
— Southern and much of interior Central CA; southern NV: Excessive Heat Warnings and Watches continuing through the Labor Day weekend and into early next week. High temperatures will range from 100-110 deg F in the San Joaquin Valley to 105-115 deg F in the Mojave and southern Deserts and 115-123 deg F in Death Valley. Excessive Heat Warnings come into effect throughout the Sacramento Valley starting Saturday. I-5, I-8, I-10, I-15, I-40, CA-58, CA-99 among the highways impacted.
Mountain:
— Portions of south-central AZ: Excessive Heat Warning Sunday and Monday. High temperatures 106-110 deg F. I-10, I-17 impacted.
Central:
— Portions of southwest TX: Flash Flood Watches continue through this evening for excessive rainfall. Locally 1-2 inches of rainfall are possible. Flooding threat greatest in the Big Bend region, including Big Bend National Park. I-10, I-20 potentially impacted.
— Northern WI; southeast MN; northwest IA; southeast NE; north-central KS: Isolated strong to severe thunderstorms possible Friday afternoon and evening. Strong wind gusts and hail are the primary threats. I-29, I-35, I-43, I-70, I-80, I-90, I-94 potentially impacted.
Eastern:
— MI Upper Peninsula: Isolated strong to severe thunderstorms possible Friday afternoon and evening. Strong wind gusts and hail are the primary threats.
