Travel & RV Weather Forecast Sunday 8 May


**Heads Up ** If you are traveling through the Four Corners region, or I-25 between Denver and Santa Fe, be prepared for very strong winds today, tonight and early Monday. Some wind gusts will be well in excess of Hurricane Force.


  • Late season Pacific storms bring snow to low elevations of southwest Oregon, northwest California and the Sierra Nevada. I-80 and I-5 impacted.
  • Strong winds over much of interior central and southern California and the Great Basin.
  • A several day stretch of strong winds are likely across portions of the Four Corners region into the southern High Plains and especially in New Mexico.
  • An early-season heat wave will impact the southern Plains on Sunday and will expand next week.

Pacific:

— OR Cascades above 4000 feet: Winter Weather Advisories this evening through late this evening. Additional snow accumulations of 4-8 inches likely. Winds gusting to 35 mph.

West-central and southwest OR above 1500 feet; northwest CA above 2000 feet. Winter Weather Advisories through midday today. Up to 3-7 inches snow above 1500 feet. I-5, US-101 impacted.

Northern CA west slope northern Sierra Nevada: Winter Weather Advisories above 5000 feet midday today through tonight. 4-8 inches new snow likely. I-80, US-50 impacted.

— Northeast NV above 6500 feet: Winter Weather Advisories through tonight. 2-6 inches snow and wind gusts to 35 mph.

Much of east-central and interior southern CA; most of NV along and south of I-80: High Wind Warnings and Advisories today and tonight. Gusts 45-60 mph. Major highways impacted include I-5, I-8, I-10, I-15, I-40, I-80, US-50, US-395

Mountain:

Portions of southwest and central MT; adjacent east-central ID: Winter Weather Advisories through Monday morning. Expect 1-3 inches of snow at lower elevations and 3-6 inches at pass levels. I-15, I-90 impacted.

Southern and east-central UT; northern and central AZ; most of NM except southeast corner; western and southern CO: High Wind Warnings and Advisories today and tonight. Wind Gusts 50-65 mph, with some gusts to 75 mph in favored mountain locations. I-15, I-17, I-25, I-40, I-70 impacted.

South-central CO I-25 corridor south of Denver; north-central NM: High Wind Warnings this evening through midday Monday: Gusts 75-85 mph. I-25 highly impacted.

Central:

— Central and eastern IA; southwest MN: Isolated late-day Monday storms may produce hail and/or damaging winds. A tornado is possible. I-35, I-80, I-90, I-94 potentially impacted.

— Southwest TN and adjacent northern MS: Dense Fog Advisory through mid-morning. I-40 impacted.

Eastern:

— No significant weather issues for RV’ers today or Monday.
