  • Winter storm brings much colder air and snow from the Inter-mountain West, through the Rockies and Plains to the western Great Lakes.
  • Strong winds and mountain snows return to California on Sunday.
  • Heavy rains and a chance for severe weather along the Gulf Coast Sunday.

Pacific:

— Portions of northern CA including the Sacramento Valley and north Bay area: Wind Advisories Sunday afternoon through Monday afternoon. Gusts to 50 mph. I-5 impacted.

— CA central and northern Sierras; northeast CA; adjacent west-central NV: Winter Weather Advisories tonight through Sunday. Snow accumulations will range from 1-2 inches east of the Sierras to 3-6 inches at pass level. Wind gusts 50-60 mph. I-80, US-50 US-95, US-395 impacted.

— Interior Southern CA Mojave Desert south to San Diego County deserts. Wind Advisories Sunday and Sunday night. Gusts 40-45 mph. I-8, I-10, I-15, I-40, CA-58 impacted.

Southern CA San Bernardino, Riverside and San Diego County mountains: Winter Storm Watches Sunday and Monday starting at 3000 feet. Snow accumulations will range from a few inches at 3000-4000 feet to more than 7 inches at 6000 feet and higher. Wind gusts 30-50 mph. I-8, I-15 impacted.

Mountain:

— Northern and eastern ID; MT except northeast portion of state; WY except for southwest portion of state; north-central CO: Winter Storm Warnings and Advisories today and Sunday. Additional snow accumulations 2-6 inches except 6-10 more inches in the mountains and higher passes. Wind gusts to 35 mph and windchill values fall to -20 deg F. I-15, I-25, I-80, I-90, I-94 impacted.

— Much of southern ID and north-central UT: Winter Storm Warnings (southeast ID) and Advisories today and tonight. Additional accumulations up to 7 inches except 8-12 inches above 7000 feet. Wind gusts to 35 mph. I-15, I-80, I-84 impacted.

— Northwest UT: High Wind Watch Sunday afternoon and night. Gusts to 60 mph. I-80 impacted.

— Northern and central AZ; western CO; central and western NM: Strong winds Sunday afternoon and evening. Wind gusts 35-50 mph. I-17, I-25, I-40, I-70 impacted.

Central:

— Much of western and southern SD; northern NE; southern MN and northern IA; southern WI and northern IL: Winter Storm Warnings and Advisories today and tonight. Additional snow accumulations will range from 2-7 inches. I-35, I-39, I-43, I-88, I-90 impacted.

Southeast TX; central and southern LA; coastal MS; coastal AL; FL Panhandle: Isolated strong to severe thunderstorms possible Sunday. Some hail possible in TX; otherwise the primary threats are damaging wind gusts and a couple of tornadoes. I-10, I-12, I-45, I-49, I-55, I-59, I-65 potentially impacted.

— Southeast TX; central and southern LA, MS, and AL; western FL Panhandle: Excessive rains Sunday and Sunday night will create a slight risk of flash flooding. I-10, I-12, I-20, I-45, I-49, I-55, I-59, I-65, I-85 potentially impacted.

— Central and eastern OK; southeast KS; southwest MO: Strong winds mid-morning through early afternoon. Gusts 30-40 mph. I-40, I-44 impacted.

Eastern:

Central and northeast MI: Winter Weather Advisories this afternoon through Sunday morning. 4-6 inches snow. I-69, I-75, I-96, I-196, US-31 impacted.

— West-central and southwest GA: Excessive rains Sunday and Sunday night will create a slight risk of flash flooding. I-75, I-85 potentially impacted.
