Travel & RV Weather Forecast Saturday 20 August


  • Monsoon activity will generate localized to considerable flash flooding this weekend from the Southwest into the Southern Plains.
  • Potential Tropical Cyclone Four may produce a few hours of heavy showers and squally conditions over far-south Texas as it approaches northeast Mexico this evening.

Pacific:

No significant weather impacts to RV travel today or Sunday.

Mountain:

Central and southern AZ; most of NM; far-west TX: Flood Watches continue through tonight from monsoon storms. Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Low-water crossings may be flooded. I-8, I-10 west of the I-10/I-20 split, I-17, I-19, I-25, I-40 potentially impacted.

Central:

Extreme southern coastal TX: Tropical Storm Warning for Potential Tropical Cyclone Four. There may be a few hours this afternoon and evening of winds gusting to 30-40 mph and briefly heavy rainshowers as the system moves inland along or just south of the Rio Grande River early this evening. Minimal impacts to travel and camping, but stay aware of any guidance and directions from local emergency managers. I-2 potentially impacted.

— Be prepared for heavy rains to spread from west to east across the Southern Plains Sunday into early next week. Northeast TX may see flooding rains Monday through Wednesday.

Eastern:

— Portions of northern VA between I-81 and I-95: Dense Fog Advisory through mid-morning. I-64 impacted.
