  • Chance for severe thunderstorms across much of the northern U.S. from Montana to the East Coast today and especially Tuesday.
  • Heaviest rains today will stretch from eastern Iowa to southern Michigan, centered on southern Wisconsin.
  • Heat will impact the Central U.S. into the Deep South through early this week.

Pacific:

— North-central and northwest WA; northern ID: Flood Watches through late this evening for excessive rainfall.

Southern CA Mojave Desert Slopes: Wind Advisory through midday today. Gusts to 50 mph. CA-58 impacted.

Mountain:

Southern, central and eastern MT: Isolated to scattered severe thunderstorms are possible today. Strong wind gusts and hail are the main threats. I-90, I-94 potentially impacted.

— Central and eastern MT; northeast WY: Isolated to scattered severe thunderstorms are possible Tuesday. Strong wind gusts and hail are the main threats. I-90, I-94 potentially impacted.

— Portions of west-central, southwest and south-central NM: Flood Watches through this evening for excessive monsoonal rainfall. I-25, I-40 potentially impacted.

Central:

Southwest ND; western and central SD: Isolated to scattered severe thunderstorms are possible today. Strong wind gusts and hail are the main threats. I-90, I-94 potentially impacted.

Central and southeast MN; eastern IA; most of WI; northern IL: Isolated to scattered severe thunderstorms are possible today. Strong wind gusts and hail are the main threats. Major highways potentially impacted include I-35, I-39, I-43, I-80, I-88, I-90.

— Southwest ND; SD; most of NE north of I-80; southern MN; central and northern IA; southern WI; northern and eastern IL: Isolated to scattered severe thunderstorms are possible Tuesday. Strong wind gusts and hail are the main threats. Major highways potentially impacted include I-25, I-29, I-35, I-39, I-43, I-55, I-57, I-80, I-88, I-90, I-94.

— Heat Advisories today stretch from the northern Plains to the lower Mississippi Valley.

Eastern:

— Southern MI; IN; OH; northern KY; WV; central and southern PA; most of MD; DC; northern and western VA: Isolated to scattered severe thunderstorms are possible Tuesday. Strong wind gusts and hail are the main threats. Major highways potentially impacted include I-64, I-65, I-66, I-68, I-70, I-71, I-74, I-75, I-77, I-79, I-80, I-81, I-83, I-90, I-95, PA and OH Turnpikes, IN Toll Road.
