** Heads Up ** Tropical Storm Kay, although weakening and moving away from the southern California coast, will bring most unusual tropical storm impacts to California today through Saturday.


  • Heavy rains and potential for significant flash flooding over southern and central California from Tropical Storm Kay on Friday and Saturday.
  • Expect high winds today from Kay over southern California, especially near the coast.
  • Potential for significant flash flooding over the Georgia and South Carolina coasts today, including Savannah and Charleston.

Pacific:

— OR Cascade Mountains: Strong winds Friday. Gusts 30-45 mph.

— CA Sacramento and San Joaquin Valleys : Excessive Heat Warnings through this evening. High temperatures 100-110 deg F.

— Southern CA coastal regions from San Luis Obispo to greater Los Angeles: Excessive Heat Warning through this evening. High temperatures 100-110 deg F. US 101 and major highways in and around Los Angeles impacted.

Much of southern CA and the southern Sierra Nevada, except the immediate coastal regions north of San Diego County; southern NV: Flood Watches through Saturday evening due to heavy rains associated with Tropical Storm Kay. Rainfall could be 2-4 inches with up to 8 inches falling on the eastern slopes of mountainsides. I-8, I-10, I-15, I-40, CA-58 potentially impacted.

Much of southern CA: High Wind Warnings and Advisory through early tonight. Winds associated with Tropical Storm Kay will gust from 45 mph in the southeastern part of the state to 60 mph in the coastal mountains, valleys and foothills. I-8, I-10, I-15 impacted.

Mountain:

— Western AZ: Flood Watches through Saturday evening for rainfall associated with Tropical Storm Kay. 1 to possibly 2 inches rain expected. I-8, I-10, I-40 potentially impacted.

— North-central NM: Flood Watch this afternoon and evening. I-25 potentially impacted.

Central:

— Northern WI and the adjacent MI Upper Peninsula: Isolated marginally severe thunderstorms possible today, bring a threat of hail.

Eastern:

— NY Southern Tier; central PA; far-western MD; northwest VA: Dense Fog Advisories this morning. I-66, I-68, I-76, I-80, I-81, I-99, PA Turnpike impacted.

Southeast SC and southeast GA: Isolated marginally severe thunderstorms today bring a chance of both damaging winds and a tornado or two. I-16, I-26, I-75, I-95 potentially impacted.

Coastal GA and most of coastal SC: Flood Watches in effect through this evening for up to 2-4 inches of rainfall today. I-95 potentially impacted.

— FL Big Bend Region: Flood Watches in effect through Sunday afternoon for excessive rainfall. I-10 potentially impacted.
