Travel & RV Weather Forecast Friday 27 May


  • Tornado Watch through this afternoon for much of Maryland, Virginia and parts of North Carolina.
  • There will be a threat of heavy rainfall, some areas of flash flooding, and severe weather across the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast today.
  • Much colder and unsettled weather is expected across the Intermountain West this weekend including the potential for higher elevation snowfall and strong winds over the Four-Corners region.
  • Severe weather will also be possible today and Saturday across portions of the Northern Plains.

Pacific:

— South-central OR, northeast CA: Wind Advisory Saturday afternoon through late Saturday evening. Wind gusts 40-50 mph. US-395 impacted.

— Southern CA western Mojave Desert: Wind Advisory Saturday late morning through late evening. Winds gusting to 50 mph. CA-58, I-40 impacted.

— Northern and central NV: Wind gusts Saturday afternoon 30-40 mph. Advisories possible. I-80, US-50 impacted.

— Southern UT, northern and central AZ, southwest CO; much of NM: Wind gusts Saturday late morning through evening 30-40 mph. Advisories doubtful.

Mountain:

— Much of WY, northwest CO: Wind gusts 30-45 mph this afternoon. Strongest winds south-central and southeast WY. Advisories not likely. I-25, I-70, I-80 impacted.

— South-central WY, Southern UT, northern and central AZ, western and south-central CO; much of NM: Wind gusts Saturday late morning through evening 30-40 mph. Advisories not likely. I-10, I-15, I-25, I-40, I-70 impacted.

Northwest SD; adjacent MT, ND, and WY: Slight risk of scattered severe thunderstorms this afternoon and evening. High wind gusts are the primary threats. I-90 potentially impacted.

Central:

Most of southern SD; north-central NE: Widely scattered severe thunderstorms possible Saturday evening and Saturday night. Large hail and severe wind gusts are the primary threats. I-29, I-90 potentially impacted.

Southeast ND; much of MN; eastern SD; central and eastern NE; northwest IA: Scattered severe thunderstorms are likely Sunday and Sunday night. Significant severe weather including very large hail and hurricane-force gusts are possible with the strongest storms. Several tornadoes are also possible. I-29, I-35, I-80, I-90, I-94 potentially impacted.

Eastern:

Central MD; DC; northern, central and southern VA; central NC: Tornado Watch through this afternoon. A few tornadoes possible, along with wind gusts to 70 mph and Quarter-sized hail. I-40, I-64, I-66, I-70, I-73, I-81, I-83, I-85, I-95 potentially impacted.

Eastern PA; central MD; DC; northwest and south-central VA; western NC: Flash Flood Watches today. I-40, I-64, I-66, I-70, I-73, I-81, I-83, I-95 potentially impacted.

Eastern PA; NJ; most of MD; DE; DC; central and eastern VA; central and eastern NC; eastern SC: Scattered severe thunderstorms with a threat for wind damage and possibly a couple tornadoes are expected to develop today . I-26, I-40, I-64, I-66, I-70, I-80, I-81, I-83, I-84, I-95 / PA and NJ Turnpikes potentially impacted.
