Travel & RV Weather Forecast Friday 16 September


  • Tropical Storm Fiona is approaching the Leeward Caribbean Islands. RV’ers in Florida and the Southeast should be aware of the storm, especially next week, but no need to change any plans at this time.
  • Slight risk of severe thunderstorms over the Central Plains this afternoon and evening.
  • Northern and central California should see their first winter rains of the season starting Saturday evening.

Pacific:

— Northern and central CA: The first west coast storm of the upcoming winter will produce periods of rain and rainshowers over northern and central CA starting Saturday evening, continuing into early next week.

Mountain:

— Southeast UT; southwest CO; northeast AZ; northwest NM: Strong winds late this afternoon and evening. Gusts to 35 mph. I-40 impacted.

Central:

Western and central NE; adjacent SD and WY: Severe thunderstorms possible late this afternoon and this evening. Damaging wind gusts, large hail, and a tornado or two are all possible. I-80 potentially impacted.

— West-central WI; southern MN; IA; eastern NE; north-central and northeast KS: Isolated strong to severe thunderstorms possible on Saturday. These storms may contain hail and strong wind gusts. I-29, I-35, I-70, I-80, I-90, I-94 potentially impacted.

— MN Arrowhead: Flood Watch continues through this evening.

Eastern:

— No significant weather impacts to RV travel today or Saturday.

— Starting next week, stay aware of the forecasts for Tropical Storm Fiona.
