** Heads Up ** For those traveling in OH, WV, far-western MD, western NY, western or central PA, or western MD today, be alert for brief but intense snow squalls that suddenly reduce visibility to near zero. I-80, PA Turnpike, I-68, I-79, NY Thruway all at risk.


  • Widely scattered, brief, but intense snow squalls today over parts of Ohio, West Virginia, far-western Maryland, western Pennsylvania, and western New York.
  • Strong thunderstorms possible tonight over southern Oklahoma and adjacent Texas.
  • Rain and snow mix for the Upper Midwest tonight and Saturday morning. Some wet accumulating snow possible over northeast Iowa and northwest Illinois.
  • Scattered severe thunderstorms possible over the Florida Peninsula Saturday.
  • Rain and higher elevation snows over the Inter-Mountain West on Saturday.
  • Strong winds develop over the Northern Rockies Saturday afternoon and spread out onto the western High Plains Saturday night.

Pacific:

— No significant weather for RV Travel Friday and Saturday.

Mountain:

— Northeast ID, northwest MT: Some accumulating snows at higher elevations Saturday night. Advisories possible. I-90 potentially impacted.

— Much of MT, WY, western ND, western SD: Strong winds develop over MT late Saturday afternoon and push south and west Saturday evening and night. Gusts to 50 mph. Advisories possible. I-15, I-25, I-80, I-90 potentially impacted.

— Northeast WY, adjacent west-central SD Black Hills: Winter Weather Advisory through midday today. Total accumulations of 2-4 inches snow expected; greatest amounts above 5000 feet. I-90 impacted.

East-central NM along the I-40 corridor between Albuquerque and the TX state line: Wind Advisory this afternoon. Gusts to 50 mph. I-40 impacted.

Central:

— Southwest and southern OK: Expect a complex of strong thunderstorms to develop over southwest OK this evening and move eastward along the OK/TX border. Advisories possible. I-35, I-40 potentially impacted.

— Northeastern and east-central IA; northwest IL and adjacent WI: A rain/snow mix becomes wet snow late tonight and early Saturday. Some accumulations possible, especially on grassy surfaces. Little impact to travel. Advisories unlikely.

Eastern:

Northern OH, higher elevations of eastern WV; far-west MD; western and central PA; western NY: Expected scattered brief but intense snow squalls today. Although little or no accumulation expected, these snow squalls can reduce visibility to near-zero very rapidly and briefly slick roads, creating dangerous travel conditions. Expect the most numerous snow squalls to be over western PA and NY early this afternoon. I-68, I-76 / PA Turnpike, I-79, I-80, I-81 (NY), I-90 / NY Thruway all potentially impacted.

— Southwest VA: Wind Advisory today. Gusts to 45 mph. I-81 impacted.

FL Peninsula: Strong to possibly severe thunderstorms Saturday. Biggest threats are damaging winds and hail. I-4, I-75, I-95 potentially impacted.

— Eastern ME: Dense Fog Advisory through late this morning. I-95 impacted.
