  • A powerful storm will sweep through the Eastern half of the U.S. today and tonight.
  • A narrow zone of heavy snow and a wintry mix is anticipated from the south-central Plains to the Great Lakes.
  • Severe thunderstorms with damaging winds and strong tornadoes from the Lower Mississippi Valley to the Southeast, especially in the Tennessee Valley and Mid South.
  • Very strong winds move from the Deep South northeastwards into the Northeast today and tonight.

— Northwest coastal OR: Dense Fog Advisory through late this morning. US-101 impacted.

— Southern CA Ventura, Los Angeles, Riverside and San Diego County mountains and the Inland Empire: Wind Advisories today. Gusts to 50 mph. I-8, I-10, I-15, US-101 impacted.

— Northwest MT, along and east of the Rocky Mountain Front: High Wind Warnings today. Gusts to 65 mph except gusts to 80 mph along the Rocky Mountain Front. I-15 impacted.

— North-central ID; southwest and central MT: Winter Weather Advisories tonight through midday today. Accumulations generally 1-4 inches. I-15, I-90 impacted.

— Portions of north-central, central and southeast WY: Winter Weather Advisories today and tonight. Accumulations ranging from 3-8 inches. I-25, I-80 impacted.

— Southeast WY: High Wind Warnings starting late this afternoon and tonight. Gusts to 70 mph. I-25, I-80 impacted.

— North-central NM: Winter Weather Advisories today. 5-9 inches total accumulation in the mountains and 3-5 inches elsewhere. I-25, I-40 impacted.

— South-central ND: High Wind Watch late tonight through Friday afternoon. Gusts to 60 mph. I-94 potentially impacted.

— Far eastern and southeast NM; northwest TX; central OK: Wind Advisories today. Gusts to 45 mph. I-27, I-40 impacted.

— Southeast TX between Houston and Victoria: Wind Advisory this afternoon and tonight. Gusts to 35 mph.

Western and north-central OK; central and eastern KS; most of MO; central and southern IL; northern and central IN; southern MI; northern OH; extreme northwest PA; western and northern NY; northern and central VT; northern ME: A combination of Winter Storm Warnings and Advisories and Flood Warnings, Watches and Advisories today and tonight. A narrow band of 4-8 inches of snow with the heaviest snow from KS to IL. A band of freezing rain from north-central OK to northern NY; ice accumulations generally less than 1/10th of an inch. Travel not recommended.

Far-eastern TX; southern and eastern AR; LA; MS; almost all of AL; TN; KY; southern IL; southern IN; southern OH; WV; western VA; MD; DE; central and eastern PA; NJ; central, southern and eastern NY; CT; RI; MA; southern VT; southern NH; Down East ME: Wind Advisories today and tonight. Gusts 45-55 mph. A pulse of high winds moves from the Lower Mississippi Valley, Deep South and southern Appalachians this morning northeastward to the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast tonight.

KY; most of TN; northern and western AL; MS; northern and eastern LA; AR: Severe thunderstorms expected with damaging winds. A few tornadoes are possibles. Areas at greatest risk include western TN; northwest AL and central and northern MS.
