Three things to know about weather for travelers Tuesday 7 November

Strong winds today over the Four Corners States; strong winds move into the southern California deserts on Wednesday.

These are the most significant weather impacts to RV travel over the next two to three days. I do not list every area of rain, showers, or breezy winds. It would be exhausting (for both of us!). Please check out the animations and graphics for a good depiction of the weather along your route.

Pacific:

— Southwest WA; northwest OR: Rain, occasionally heavy, tonight. I-5, I-84, US-101 impacted.

— WA and OR Cascades; northeast OR: Cooler air behind the storm lowers snow levels into the mountains today and Tuesday. Most passes should remain clear and below the snow levels.

— Northwest OR including the greater Portland area, Willamette Valley and adjacent Vancouver WA: Wind Advisories today. Gusts 40-45 mph. I-5, I-84 impacted.

— Much of northwest, central and southeast OR; much of NV: Strong winds this afternoon. Wind gusts generally 30-40 mph. I-5, I-80, I-84, US-20, US-26, US-50, US-93, US-95, US-97 impacted.

— North-central and northeast OR; southeast WA: Strong Winds early Tuesday morning Wind gusts 30-40 mph. I-82, I-84, US-12 impacted.

— South-central OR and adjacent northwest CA: Wind Advisories continue through this afternoon. Wind gusts 40-50 mph. US-97, US-395 impacted.

— Southwest OR and adjacent northwest CA: Flash Flood Watch continues through this morning. An additional 1-2 inches of rain possible, that could trigger flash floods or debris flows along the Smith River Complex and Flat burn scars.

— CA central and southern Sierra Nevada Mountains: Winter Weather Advisory through Tuesday evening. Snow accumulations up to 5 inches. Wind gusts to 45 mph. Snow levels 7000-8000 feet today, lowering to 5000-6000 feet on Tuesday. I-80, US-50, US-395 impacted.

— Northwest and northern NV: Strong winds Monday morning through early afternoon. Gusts to 45 mph. I-80, US-95 impacted.

— Portions of southern NV, west of I-15: Wind Advisory for Springs Mountains and Red Rock Canyon. Wind gusts to 65 mph. US-95 impacted.

— Central CA coast: Strong winds Tuesday afternoon and evening. Gusts to 35 mph. CA-1 impacted.

— Southern CA Mojave Desert: Strong winds today and this evening. Wind gusts 30-40 mph. Strongest winds north of I-15, south of Death Valley NP and east of US-395.

— Southern CA Owens and Antelope Valley; interior deserts: Strong winds Tuesday afternoon and evening. Wind gusts generally 30-40 mph except stronger in the Antelope and Owens valleys north of Los Angeles. Some blowing dust possible. I-5, I-8, I-10 impacted.

Mountain:

— Much of central and west-central MT: Strong winds Tuesday. Wind gusts generally 30-40 mph but gusts to 50 mph along the Rocky Mountain Front. I-15, I-90 impacted.

— Central WY; western MT; northwest WY: High elevations snows today through Tuesday night. Snow will be periodic, with 3-6 inches at higher mountain passes in any given 24-hour period. US-26, US-89 impacted above 8500 feet.

— Central and southern ID; western and central WY; much of UT; northern AZ; northwest and north-central NM; western and central CO: Strong winds late this morning through this evening. Wind gusts generally 30-40 mph but stronger gusts likely in favored canyons and peaks. I-15, I-25, I-40, I-70, I-80 impacted.

— South-central CO: Red Flag (fire danger) Warning through this evening. Wind gusts to 45 mph. I-25 impacted.

— Southeast UT; northern, central and eastern AZ; western and central NM; western and central CO; southeast WY: Strong winds Tuesday. Wind gusts 35-40 mph expect much of CO will see wind gusts 40-55 mph. I-17, I-25, I-40, I- 70, I-80 impacted.

Central:

— Northwest, central and southeast ND; west-central and central MN: A band of light freezing rain and sleet moves south to north late tonight into Tuesday morning. A glaze of ice possible on road surfaces and bridges. I-29, I-94 impacted.

— Central and east-central WI: Strong winds late this morning through this afternoon. Wind gusts 30-35 mph. I-39, I-43 impacted.

— Central KS: Dense Fog Advisory through mid-morning. I-35 impacted.

— South-central and southwest LA; adjacent coastal TX: Dense Fog Advisories this morning. I-10, I-49 impacted.

— TX Gulf Coast vicinity Corpus Christi: Dense Fog Advisory through mid-morning. I-37 impacted.

Eastern:

— Northern ME: Snow tonight. A few inches possible. I-95 impacted.

— Northeast IL; MI Lower Peninsula; northern and central IN; northwest and coastal OH: Strong Winds today. Wind gusts generally 30-35 mph except gusting 40-45 mph over east-central MI. I-57, I-65, I-69, I-70, I-74, I-75, I-80, I-90, I-94, I-96, OH Turnpike, IN Toll Road impacted.

— Northeast OH; northwest and north-central PA; western and northern NY; northern VT and NH; northern, eastern and coastal ME: Strong winds tonight and Tuesday spreading west to east over this area. Wind gusts 30-35 mph. I-71, I-76, I-77, I-79, I-80, I-81, I-86, I-87, I-90, I-91, I-93, I-95, OH Turnpike, NY Thruway impacted.

— Southwest and south-central PA; central WV, primarily along the Allegheny Front: Strong winds tonight through midday Tuesday. Wind gusts to 35 mph. I-68, I-70, I-76, I-79, I-99, US-48, US-50, PA Turnpike impacted.
