Three things to know about weather for RVers and travelers Saturday 14 October


  • Strong winds today over parts of the Midwest.
  • A couple of severe thunderstorms may develop this afternoon over eastern North Carolina.
  • Rain moves into the Maryland, New Jersey and Pennsylvania today; rain begins this afternoon over western Oregon and Washington.

These are the most significant weather impacts to RV travel over the next two to three days. I do not list every area of rain, showers, or breezy winds. It would be exhausting (for both of us!). Please check out the animations and graphics for a good depiction of the weather along your route.

Pacific:

— Rain and showers move into western OR and WA this afternoon and tonight. I-5, I-84, I-90 impacted.

— Rain moves into northwest CA, and western OR and WA Sunday night and Monday. I-5, I-84, I-90 impacted.

Mountain:

— No significant weather impacts to RV travel expected today or Sunday.

Central:

— Eastern IA; southern WI; northern IL: Strong winds Saturday. Gusts 30-35 mph. Winds will diminish throughout the day from west to east. I-35, I-39, I-43, I-55, I-57, I-74, I-80, I-88, I-90 impacted.

— Western NE: Dense Fog likely Sunday morning. I-80 potentially impacted.

— Southwest LA: Red Flag (fire danger) Warnings this afternoon and evening. Low humidity and wind gusts to 25 mph. I-10, I-49 potentially impacted.

Eastern:

— Northern and central IN; southern MI; northern and central OH: Strong winds today. Wind gusts generally 30-35 mph except gusts to 40 mph along the Lake Erie shoreline. I-65, I-69, I-70, I-71, I-74, I-75, I-76, I-80, I-90, I-94, OH Turnpike, IN Toll Road impacted.

Eastern NC: Isolated severe thunderstorms possible this afternoon. Damaging winds and a brief tornado or two are possible. I-40, I-95 potentially impacted.
