HEADS UP! Very active severe weather likely today across NE and KS. Pay close attention to the weather if you are traveling I-80 or I-70 in NE or KS, respectively. Have a plan if you encounter severe weather. Severe weather likely to be active Thursday, centered over southeastern KS, OK and much of MO.


Severe thunderstorms will spread across the Central Plains during the late afternoon and evening with a threat for large and destructive hail, very damaging winds, and tornadoes. Scattered severe is also expected across the southern High Plains and much of the Northeast where damaging winds are the primary concern.

— Eastern WY, southwest SD, northern NE: Slight risk of severe thunderstorms this afternoon and evening. Damaging winds are the greatest threat.

— Southern NE, northern KS: Severe thunderstorms likely this afternoon and tonight with large and destructive hail, very damaging winds, and tornadoes all probable. I-70, I-80 potentially impacted.

— Southern and eastern NE, northern KS: Flash Flood potential with heavy rainshowers and thunderstorms this afternoon and tonight. I-29, I-70, I-80 potentially impacted.

— Southern KS, western OK, western TX: Slight risk of severe thunderstorms this afternoon and evening. Damaging winds and hail are the greatest threats. I-20, I-27, I-40 potentially impacted.

— Northeast OK, southeast KS: Dense Fog Advisories through mid-morning. I-35, I-44 impacted.

— Eastern KS, MO, northern AR, OK (expect the Panhandle), northern and western TX: Severe thunderstorms probable Thursday afternoon and evening, accompanied by large hail, damaging wind gusts and some tornadoes.

— Eastern OH, eastern WV, PA, MD, northern VA, DE, NJ, most of NY, VT, NH, eastern ME: Slight risk of severe thunderstorms this afternoon and evening. Damaging wind gusts are the primary threat. I-70, I-80, I-81, I-87, I-89, I-90, I-91, I-93, I-95, NY Thruway, NJ Turnpike, PA Turnpike potentially impacted.
