Scattered strong and severe thunderstorms are expected across a broad region of the central Plains, Mid Mississippi Valley, and the upper Midwest today. Flash flooding in the region is also possible today and Friday. Record-breaking heat forecast for the Pacific Northwest for the end of this week and into early next week.

— Interior northern CA, northwestern and west-central NV, most of OR and WA, eastern and northern ID, extreme northwest MT: Excessive Heat Watches and Warnings Friday through Wednesday. Temperatures may exceed 110 deg F in places. I-5, I-80, I-84, I-90 impacted.

— Southern NE, northern and central KS, IA, northern and central MO, southeast MN, central WI, western IL: Scattered severe thunderstorms probable today. I-29, I-35, I-70, I-80, I-90, I-94 potentially impacted.

— Northeast KS, northwest MO: Severe thunderstorm watch through midmorning. Scattered damaging winds, isolated wind gusts to 75 mph, and isolated hail events to 1.5 inches in diameter all possible.

— Northern and central MO: Significant risk for flash flooding today and tonight. I-70 potentially impacted.

— KS, northern and central MO, west-central IL: Slight risk of severe thunderstorms Friday and Friday evening. I-29, I-35, I-55, I-70, I-72 potentially impacted.

— Southern IA, northern MO, central IL: Significant risk for flash flooding Friday and Friday night. I-35, I-55 potentially impacted.
