Tropical Storm Claudette, which made landfall near New Orleans overnight will bring heavy rains to much of the Southeast this weekend. Scattered severe thunderstorms are expected from the central High Plains to the mid Mississippi Valley. Heat wave continues across the parts of the West and Central Plains.
— Virtually all of southern and central CA; the interior valleys of northern CA; southern NV; eastern and southern AZ: Excessive Heat Warnings through Sunday. Many locations will reach 105 to 116 deg F. I-5, I-8, I-10, I-15, I-40, I-80 impacted.
— Northeast CO, western and southern NE, northern KS, southeast IA, northern and central MO, south-central IL, southern IN: Scattered severe thunderstorms expected this afternoon and tonight. I-25, I-70, I-80 potentially impacted.
— IA, northern and central MO, southern WI, northern and central IL, northern IN, southern MI: Slight risk of severe thunderstorms Sunday afternoon and evening. I-35, I-70, I-80, I-90 potentially impacted.
— Southeast LA, southern MS, coastal AL, western FL Panhandle: Tropical Storm Warnings remain in effect. A Tornado Watch is in effect though midday. Tropical Storm Claudette made landfall near New Orleans overnight. Some parts of the coast may see 4-6 inches of rain. Winds along the MS/AL Coasts could gust 40-50 mph today. Primary threats will be heavy rains, flash flooding and a tornado or two. I-10 impacted.
